2014 Box Office Contest - Pick the Top 20 Films of The Year
Well, with the 2013 BO Contest pretty much over, and with a winner already established, it's time to announce the 2014 edition!
THE RULES
Each entrant must choose what they think will be the Box Office Top 20 films of the year, in the correct order. You can only choose films released in the calender year (so Lone Survivor doesn't count, as it opened in limited release in 2013)
Each entrant also can pick 2 "bench" films. This means that if one or two of the films chosen in their Top 20 gets moved to 2015 or beyond, their bench picks will now be activated. Make sure to order your bench films correctly (i.e. your #1 bench film will be the first picked if one Top 20 choice loses its date)
Winners will be announced by the end of January 2015, to give films that open in late December a fighting chance. The winner will be the person with the most money earned by then.
If any two people have the same slate of films, the tie-breaker will be based on the accuracy of order.
The closing date for entries is midnight Wednesday Feb 5th.
Once you post your list you cannot change it.
If you want to pick a film from January or early February on your list you must submit your list by midnight of the Sunday before that film opens. For example, if you want to include The Nut Job (opens Jan 17th) in your list, then you must submit by midnight Jan 12th. This is to avoid anyone using accurate tracking information to gain an advantage.
Good luck, and choose wisely.

3. The Hobbit: There and Back Again
4. How to Train Your Dragon 2
5. The Amazing Spider-Man 2
6. Interstellar
7. Big Hero 6

17. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
18. Hercules (Dwayne Johnson/Brett Ratner)
19. Jersey Boys
20. A Million Ways to Die in the West
Alternates:
The Lego Movie

This was a difficult one to do since not very many of the movies this year seem interesting or have the makings of a bonafide hit. It's simply a year overrun by Marvel adaptations, young adult literature adaptations and franchises that have overstayed their welcome.

I'll definitely wait a bit before putting my list online. Don't want to see a big film being pushed back. But there's already some surprising choices.

Me too. Last year I posted just before The Heat was announced, and missed out. And with John's mid-season game I had Good Dinosaur on my list just before it was pushed. So while I have my Top 15 set in stone, and the remaining seven pretty much selected, I'm going to wait until Feb for any surprises.Chienfantome wrote:I'll definitely wait a bit before putting my list online. Re: 2014 Box Office Contest - Pick the Top 20 Films of The Y
Forgive my memory, if someone posts a list, but then decides to alter it prior to the deadline, is that ok, or is the initial post final. Say, you place Maleficent on your bench, but then a couple of weeks later feel some good buzz for it and promote it your your actual list, or another movie not even on your bench, is that ok? I understand that once a movie has opened you can't pick it, but until then, can a slate be altered?
Re: 2014 Box Office Contest - Pick the Top 20 Films of The Y
Great, that's 4 entrants already. Thanks for starting the ball rolling, guys. Will try to hold back on my thoughts until I post mine, but damn Walleye there are some major surprises on your slate.
Re: 2014 Box Office Contest - Pick the Top 20 Films of The Y
Slates cannot be altered once posted. Thems the rules (well, now that I added that note).silversurfer19 wrote:Forgive my memory, if someone posts a list, but then decides to alter it prior to the deadline, is that ok, or is the initial post final. Cheers! Now that's confirmed I'm waiting til almost the last minute, as I don't want to miss out on any newly scheduled movies like you previously mentioned. Not too late though, as I know I'll forget!!
Re: 2014 Box Office Contest - Pick the Top 20 Films of The Y
I'll post you a reminder just before the deadline. Or else get drunk and fall asleep. Either are just as likely.
