I wasn't expecting to lead the way at this point. That's a good surprise (although Jas is sure to to finish ahead of me)

Again, below is the latest count of the game, in order from highest to lowest. Hunger Games 2 and The Hobbit 2 are on everyone's list. Everyone bar 2
Two people didn't pick The Hobbit? That can't be right. I think some commentary got lost there.

Not much margin for error in this game, is there? The gap between first and last will be pretty slim in the end.

3. The Hobbit
4. Star Trek
5. Man of Steel
6. Oz The Great and Powerful
7. Despicable Me 2
8. Monsters University
9. Thor The Dark World
10. After Earth
11. Hangover 3
12. The Great Gatsby
13. World War Z

Very funny stuff :) Especially After Earth and the Lone Ranger...seemed like solid picks on paper. Oh well, I think it's fun, and I'll look forward to doing it again for 2014 soon.

Smurfs 2 and White House Down are the ones that killed me this year, along with missing the breakout hits like WWZ.

I now enjoy these long term games more than the Fantasy Moguls game that brought us all here so I've already started looking ahead to 2014. There's a January film I may want on my slate or my bench, so I might have to submit early this year.

Don't worry, it isn't Paranormal Activity or Kellan Lutz's Hercules, so you have a few weeks to recover from New Year's Eve.

I sure picked a lot of turkeys. My mistake was not seeing potential in The Heat, We're the Millers and Identity Thief, at least not to the point where I picked them ahead of films like After Earth, Ender's Game and Die Hard 5. I put too much trust in animated films to see that Turbo and Epic had less appeal than on paper. The only comedy I did pick was Hangover 3, and we all know how that one turned out.

I can't imagine many people picked Gravity or World War Z. Those have to be the two biggest surprise hits of the year.

I actually had World War Z. As for Gravity, I don't think I've ever been more wrong about a film's box office potential.

The will be the second last update. Now, with all of our films opened, it's a case of the last few dollars that can be squeezed in Jan.

In December Frozen blew expectations away, which is unfortunate for Brock and UDM who were the only two to not pick it. Anchorman will make over 100m, which isn't bad for us 8 that opted for it. I was the only one to pick Wolf on Wall St, which will earn about 80m. Not bad, but not enough.

It's unlikely that Jas will be beaten. His slate was impressive, and Jack Ryan's delay meant he picked up the 200m earned by WWZ. Nice going. Chien came a close 2nd. The remaining positions are still open due to Anchorman, Wolf, Saving Mr Banks, Frozen, etc, all earning, and I'll post the final update in late Jan.

Here are the standings as for Jan 3

LEAGUE STANDINGS IN MILLIONS

Jas: 4275
Chien: 4205
Empire: 4126
JohnE: 4120
W: 4110
Redraider: 4106
Shonenbat: 4087
Englishozzy: 4075
Surfer: 4074
Six: 4025
Supershaan: 4020
Shryke: 4014
Wrestler: 3995
Tranny: 3986
Banks: 3953
UDM: 3913
Buscemi: 3859
Brockster: 3789

Next week I'll announce the 2014 contest, in case anyone wants to pick up a Jan film.

Thanks for the update and being proactive with the 2014 edition.

And congrats to Jas. He looks unbeatable now.

Ya gotta love a game where you can pull in 4 billion and still be a loser. ;-)

I love it cause seeing how I picked a few disappointments and still came 2nd, there's a lot of potential and variables in this game. Congratulations to Jas for the win.

FINAL STANDINGS - in millions

Jas: 4438
Chien: 4346
W: 4273
Empire: 4264
JohnE: 4258
Redraider: 4245
Six: 4240
Englishozzy: 4238
Shonenbat: 4226
Surfer: 4213
Supershaan: 4182
Shryke: 4152
Wrestler: 4136
Banks: 4115
Tranny: 4075
Buscemi: 4035
UDM: 4008
Brockster: 3853

Congratulations to Jas! What a result. Jas picked the following slate of films:
1 Catching Fire
2 Iron Man 3
3 Star Trek 2
4 Monsters Uni
5 The Hobbit Pt 2
6 Fast & Furious 6
7 Oz the Great
8 Man of Steel
9 The Hangover 3
10 Frozen
11 Wolverine 2
12 The Croods
13 Pacific Rim
14 Thor 2
15 Anchorman 2
16 Lone Ranger
17 Despicable Me 2
18 Jack Ryan
19 The Heat
20 Ender's Game

B1 World War Z
B2 Turbo

The Heat and WWZ (which was activated as Jack Ryan was pushed back) really gave him the advantage, but he also avoided many of the disappointing blockbusters of the year. Nicely, played sir.

Remember, the 2014 game will be closing on Wednesday, and if you want to include The Lego Movie it has to be in before midnight on Sunday.

Thanks, Six. And congrats to Jas. Well played, indeed.

I'm pleasantly surprised by my high finish. Only $15 million away from a bronze medal, which is like gold to a Canadian. Maybe I don't have to radically alter my strategy this year.

And what a logjam from 3rd thru 10th!
