Yes!

We've done music, tv, and games. Why not start discussing books?

Reposting for all so you don't have to go back to the previous page to know what Six is talking about:

Question for all of you... I know we're all "movie" people here, and I don't know who among you reads books, enjoys books, or likes to talk about books. But I'd like to find out.

Since publishing my book, I have read several dozen books by some fantastic authors - who are also really fantastic people. I have a handful of books that are so goddamn awesome that I don't think they should be kept in obscurity along with the millions of other books on Amazon.

I would like to start a thread (separate from this one) where we can talk about books we're reading, enjoying and loving... or maybe even books we've enjoyed recently, or even decades ago. We can throw it open to any age, genre, or taste.

What do you guys think?

Still waiting for your book report on Joshua's Island, but that's cool that you're always reading.

So that's three... anyone else?

FYI:

I have officially severed all ties with iUniverse, the company I self-published Joshua's Island with. I wish I knew as much about the self-publishing industry when I started as I do now. Needless to say, their exorbitant prices and non-existent marketing strategy is what chased me away. Chalk it up to "lessons learned."

I will be re-publishing a second edition of J.I. with a different self-publishing company. The story itself will not change, but there will be some minute tweaks in the wording. I have removed some of the profanity (all of the "shit"s and most of the "goddamn"s), as well as a couple other things, based on feedback I have gotten.

Hopefully by the time IU gets around to pulling their version of my book off of the various retail websites they deal with, I'll already have it back up on them with Edition #2.

Work is progressing on Book #2. I think I'm about 80% done with my rough draft. I'm at 70K words, about 5K more than J.I. was. I may have to do some trimming in the editing phase. I hope to be done with the RD in May, and I'm tentatively hoping to release the book on Amazon on my birthday (8/17). I may set up pre-ordering. My initial strategy may be to lower J.I. to $0.99 and then price book #2 at $3.99 or $4.99, as that strategy has worked fairly well for other authors.

And no, I haven't forgotten about the book thread. My wife is going to Vegas this weekend with some friends, so I'll have the house to myself. I'll probably do it then.

Good news, all.

Just today, I finished the rough draft of my second novel, which I'm titling (so far) Kelsey's Crush.

Now comes the editing phase, which I expect will last 2-3 months. I'm shooting for a release date in August.

The new story clocks in at 96K words, 31K longer than Joshua's Island.

My God, I'm on a roll....

I need everyone's help.

This website is accepting nominations for the 50 best Self-published books of the past year.

I know only a few of you have read the book, but if you could find the time to nominate Joshua's Island, I'd be very grateful. I probably don't stand a chance, but you never know.

Thanks in advance!

I need everyone's help... again.

This one is REALLY EASY. Seriously.

I found a website called iflist.com, where people can propose cast members for books to be made into movies (or sometimes not even books, just ideas in their heads). Anyone can "support" an idea, and the more support it has, the more chance someone in the film/TV industry may take notice.

Maybe I don't have a prayer, but I thought, "What the hell". So I signed Joshua's Island up, found seven young actors to play the key roles, and threw it into the mix.

Now I need your help. Again, this is SO easy. Like, two clicks and you're done.

1. Simply go to my book's page on the site:

http://www.iflist.com/stories/joshuasisland#

2. Log in using Facebook, and then click on the "Supported" button on the right.

And you're done!

Whether you've read the book or not, every vote counts. Let's send Joshua's Island to the big screens, where maybe, just maybe, it'll be part of the yearly draft next year!

Thank you in advance.
