1:00 pm Vegas time:

Anton Makievski busts short-stack Chris Moore, taking his last 6M and regaining the chip lead at 24 million. A heads-up showdown between Belizian (Belizite?) Badih Bounahra and Lars Bonding goes to Bounahra. Bonding and Moore take 22nd and 21st place, respectively, pocketing over $300,00 each.

20 left!

In other hands, American Scott Schwalik doubled up at the expense of Aleksandr Mozhnyakov, who is now short-stacked at 1.38 million.

1:05 pm:

Going fast now. American Gianni Demers has exited in 20th place, while the aforementioned Mozynyakov takes 19th place.

They are now officially down to the final two tables.

1:15 pm:

Makievski now has over 29 million in chips, more than 8 million ahead of #2 O'Dea. A big move was just made by South African Konstantinos Mamaliadis, who I think just knocked out both Demers and Mozynkyakov, taking down an 8.2 million chip pot.

Short stack is the field's last Brit, Samuel Holden, with 3.3 million.

One thing's for sure, the final table is going to be very international with a lot of unknowns. 10/15 left are non-Americans with Lenaghan and Barnhart's oustings.

I really need to find a place to play cards...

6:00 pm Vegas time.

Lot's happened since I went out earlier.

Kenny Shih and Sam Barnhart finished in 18th and 17th. One-time chip leader Ryan Lenaghan must have had a HORRIBLE day, because he finished in 16th. The last of the Russian contingent, Andrey Pateychuk, busted at 15th place, followed by American Scott Schwalich. 13th place goes to South African Konstantinos Mamaliadis.

As of this moment, here are the standings, with three people still needing to be eliminated before the November Nine is decided:

1. Eoghan O'Dea (IRE), 33 million
2. John Hewitt (CR), 27.8 million
3. Anton Makievskyi (UKR), 26 million
4. Ben Lamb (USA), 20.3 million
5. Phil Collins (USA), 19 million
6. Matt Giannetti (USA), 14.9 million
7. Bryan Devonshire (USA), 14 million
8. Pius Heinz (GER), 13.2 million
9. Martin Staszko (CZE), 12.8 million
10. Badih Bounahra (BLZ), 12.2 million
11. Samuel Holden (GBR), 8.8 million
12. Khoa Nguyen (CAN), 5 million

That's what I've been doing... Last year when I was able to play fantasy WSOP on Full Tilt, I would go there to check the major tournaments as they counted for more. I got like 8 freeroll entries and made two final tables.

9:30 pm:

Bryan Devonshire busts and finishes in 12th place, earning over $600,000.

Interesting... if the next two people to go are both Americans, then the November Nine will each represent a different country. Probably won't happen, but that would be pretty cool. We'll know by the time the night's out.

Khoa Nguyen is valiantly trying to claw himself back from the brink... he's gone from 5M to 9M, but he's still short-stacked.

9:50 pm:

And... Nguyen is out, at the hands of Martin Staszko. They are now down to ten, and all of them will sit around the feature table until one more is eliminated.

Short stack is now Giannetti, with 9.5 million.

2:15 am

Wow. After several hours playing ten-handed, with dramatic hands galore, Costa Rican John Hewitt goes all in with pocket threes, and was called by Irishman Eoghan O'Dea with K-J. The flop came Q-10-7 to give O'Dea the open-ended straight. An ace came on the turn, giving O'Dea the Broadway straight.

I loved how every time Phil Collins hit a big pot, his gallery would bust out the chorus to "In the Air Tonight". Just awesome.

So the November Nine is set. Here are the final chip counts:

1. Martin Staszko (CZE), 40,475,000
2. Eoghan O'Dea (IRE), 29,400,000
3. Matt Giannetti (USA), 24,850,000
4. Phil Collins (USA), 21,425,000
5. Ben Lamb (USA), 20,725,000
6. Badih Bounara (BLZ), 19,950,000
7. Pius Heinz (GER), 16,475,000
8. Anton Makiievskyi (UKR), 15,325,000
9. Samuel Holden (GBR), 13,725,000

Seven countries represented in the November Nine is a record.

Time for bed now.

I know its not poker, but its still gambling. My buddy and I went up to Saratoga for the second to last day of the meet today. We decided to play a dime superfecta together, had 5 horses and boxed it (so it can come any way) and need to hit the top 4. Costs 12 bucks (6 each, an easy bet to make, each bet is only a dime).... The heavy favorite didn't hit the top 4, our other 4 horses did.... Paid 1100 bucks. 550 a piece. Fucking amazing. Definitely my biggest gambling score to date.

Sounds great. I always wanted to go play the ponies, but the people I go with aren't into it. My biggest score was playing craps. $200 buy-in netted me $1600. It pales in comparison to the scores the two guys I go with have made.

If FTP is a Ponzi Scheme, then US banks are Ponzi Schemes insured by the federal government. I'm still pissed that I can't get to my money on there (though I withdrew most of it before all this went down), but a ponzi scheme? It's a business that got shut down and didn't have enough money to pay the 75% of their clients that are US residents. Banks only have to keep 10-20% on hand.

Something shady went on, but not one person had a problem withdrawing until the government made it illegal to play online.

Yeah, but banks will give you your money back, because the ARE insured by the U.S. Government. They aren't a bunch of assholes that took money from players and used it to buy a yacht and just hoped that people would lose, rather than want to cash out. It doesn't surprise me at all that any of these sites are corrupt, and it goes back to the main problem. These places shouldn't be outlawed, they should be REGULATED.

Agree. Same with any other vices that are currently illegal and not killing anyone.
