Best Characters of 2009

Post by Shrykespeare »

Well, I don't know if W (or someone else) is up to it, but let's have some fun. I am going to nominate my 20 favorite movie characters of 2009. Now, these are characters that, for whatever reason, stand out as special. They made the movie they were in better. They had the coolest lines. They deserve their own spinoff. You know, stuff like that. Maybe if a few of you put in your favorites, we could make a game of it.

So, here goes (in chronoligcal order):

Bryan Mills (Taken)
Rorschach (Watchmen)
B.O.B. (Monsters vs. Aliens)
Gallaxhar (Monsters vs. Aliens)
Sydney Fife (I Love You, Man)
James T. Kirk (Star Trek)
Mr. Spock (Star Trek)
Dug (Up)
Carl Fredrickson (Up)
Alan Garner (The Hangover)
Seymour Simmons (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen)
Julia Child (Julie & Julia)
Wikus Van De Merwe (District 9)
Col. Hans Landa (Inglourious Basterds)
9 (9)
Flint Lockwood (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs)
Mark Whitacre (The Informant!)
Clyde Shelton (Law Abiding Citizen)
Lee Anne Tuohy (The Blind Side)
Neytiri (Avatar)
Happy 60th birthday Jet Li! (4/26/23)

Polls were kind of killed when we moved here because you can't redo them, you have to create an entire new thread. I could probably do a tournament... I'd go with (in reverse chronological order because I'm doing the release schedule backwards):

Precious (Precious)
Tallahassee (Zombieland)
Phil Wennick (The Hangover)
Alan Garner (The Hangover)
Mike Tyson (The Hangover)
Ryder (The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3)
Deadpool (X-Men Origins: Wolverine)
Scotty (Star Trek)
Carl Fredrickson (Up)
Rorscarch (Watchmen)
The Comedian (Watchmen)
Neil Peart (I Love You, Man) :) (not really)
Walt Kowalski (Gran Torino)
Tenet: Criterion Edition. Now with more Backwards Man.

It had a release date of 2008 but it's as much of a 2009 film as Taken is. It was the first large film of 2009 and I bet 95% of the people that saw it believe it was first released in 2009 and really was the first in a long line of surprises in a surprise packed year. It went wide in 2009, and it feels more 2009 than the other "Oscar bait" films, so I'm counting it.
Tenet: Criterion Edition. Now with more Backwards Man.
