NCAAB Thread

Post by W »

I figured I'd create an entire thread because I was going to post pic of the new Oregon basketball court design...

It is supposed to be intimidating. I don't think so.

So, what does everyone think of the selections? At first glance, it looks like Kansas will be able to walk into the finals. I guess they're saying that Pitt is the #3 team in the nation, but I think they're a little lower. Plus Pitt never really does well in the tourney. If Pitt gets to the Final Four to face them, it'll go against their entire history the last couple decades at least.

The twos in that half (Notre Dame and Florida) of the bracket are really overrated. As are the 3's if you can control Jimmer.

So... I don't know. Picking Kansas to win the whole thing considering their chances of getting there are, in my opinion, over 50% is probably the safest bet.

Kansas was supposed to win it all last year and they got eliminated in the second round. I'll take Duke or Ohio State.

I think the bracket is pretty crappy myself. The additional play-ins were poorly handled (this was supposed to add more mid-majors but instead added more undeserving major conference teams) and to make one of them a 12 and 13 contest makes no sense at all. As for snubs and undeserving teams, Colorado and Missouri State deserved spots and Missouri (among other teams) did not deserve a spot.

I think Kansas has the best chance to win because they'll be in the championship game. If we get two teams, though, of course I'm taking Duke and Ohio State. One of those two teams is going to play Kansas and they're both better.

If that makes sense to you at all.

Damn... I looked at the brackets wrong. ESPN's brackets are stupid as they have the bottom brackets playing each other... It's always left side/right side.

BYU will be the fourth team. They are easily better than Pitt (who always fizzles out) and Florida (who wasn't even the best team in their conference).

I think the same thing. Three #1's and a #3. There's a good chance that someone will take advantage of BYU's inside guys. I think Jimmer can put them on his back to get to the Final Four though. If either of the three #1s are beaten, it'll probably be Duke, by Uconn.

Okay, guys, time for your Sweet 16 picks. Mine are:

EAST

Ohio State (1) over Kentucky (4)
North Carolina (2) over Marquette (11)

I love picking upsets, but not in this case. OSU and UNC are just too good.

WEST

Duke (1) over Arizona (5) (sob)
San Diego State (2) over Connecticut (3)

I know SDSU is #2, but I would actually consider this an upset win.

SOUTHWEST

Kansas (1) over Richmond (12)
VCU (11) over Florida State (10)

Good to know that at least one double-digit seed will make the Elite Eight!

SOUTHEAST

Butler (5) over Wisconsin (4)
BYU (3) over Florida (2)

Butler is a team of destiny (again). The BYU-FU game is a tough one to call, but I give the nod to BYU.

With the exception of Uconn, those are my picks as well. And Kaitlyn has Arizona winning the whole thing if that makes you feel any better. And Derrick Williams is scheduled to be the #1 overall NBA draft pick.

Irving will be the number one draft pick, Williams will need to play his ass off, beat Duke, and then play his ass off again to pass him. Irving is a beast.

I've got:

OSU
NC
Duke
UConn
Kansas
VCU
Wisconsin
BYU

I think it's Irving that needs to play well coming off that injury and considering that he's played only 10 games this season including the tourney. It's really going to be between, Williams, Irving, Barnes, and Sullinger. I think Williams would be most team's pick right now.

NBAdraft.net is normally the website I look at and they're normally good with the higher up picks. They've had Derrick Williams there since sometime before the tourney followed by Barnes, Irving, Kanter, Sullinger, and a couple International prospects.

If anyone passes up Irving, I expect them to be very sorry about it.

That said, Arizona can win the game, just don't think they will, but absolutely not out of the realm of possibility. They are better than Michigan and Michigan came within two points of Duke!

Three of the Final Four teams have been determined:

Virginia Commonwealth
Connecticut
Butler

Kentucky and North Carolina will play later for the fourth spot.

Has there ever been an occurrence when NO #1 seeds made the Final Four?
