No, I was saying that in order to overtake Milwaukee, we'd need a giant collapse from them. In the case of Atlanta, that's already happened with their 4-8 record since just before playing the Redbirds while the Cards have gone 10-2.

I want a Brewers collapse. At least then so the DBacks can grab home field advantage forthe first round and play the Braves instead of Philly.

Ha, you also don't need a Brewers collapse for that, you just need them to go 3-3 while you go 4-2. You're only one game back and you have the tiebreaker over them.

The Brewers are 4.5 games up with 7.5 (them 7, STL 8) to go. Anyways, I'm focusing on the Braves atm.

At least the Atlanta didn't win today (they didn't play at all). I really would have loved to be only one game back instead of two...

We have 3 vs Cubs, 3 vs Astros
They have 3 vs Nats, 3 vs Philly

I certainly hope the Phils play a decent lineup in the last three. I'm sure a lot of their guys will be resting.

I am so happy tonight, I can't even explain it.

This team, which NO ONE picked to win, has won. And not just won, but at the expense of the World Series champs.

Here is the song that is playing all over Phoenix tonight. As sports-team anthems go, it's pretty darn catchy. The clips are a few season old, but that hardly matters on a night like this.

The Red Sox have no chance. They are playing some of the worst baseball I've ever seen in my entire life.

Scores right now:

Baltimore 6, Boston 3, Final
Tampa Bay 5, New York 2, Final
Philadelphia 4, Atlanta 2, Final
Houston 5, St. Louis 4, Final/10

Atlanta still one game ahead.

Boston and Tampa Bay are tied with two games left (Tampa Bay has head-to-head tiebreaker).

Cards trying to force extra innings. 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth.

And Ozzie Guillen has been traded to the Marlins for two minor leaguers. This is the first coach that I can remember being traded since John Gruden.

I'm convinced that if the Cardinals don't pass Atlanta, a front office move will be made. Mozeliak has been a terrible GM (his hatred for pitchers has been obvious since day one, with him even admitting in a Sports Illustrated interview that he found them overrated) and the team has done decently in spite of him. Giving Carpenter (an over-the-hill pitcher) a two-year extension for $11 million a year when you could easily get someone better for cheaper while trying to get Pujols to stay I feel was probably the breaking point in his future.

Either he or McGwire (a Mozeliak hire that's been a disappointment) is out at the end of the season.

Tomorrow, you should be watching baseball.

Cards and Braves are tied and if they both win/lose then we'll have an ATL@STL tiebreaker on Thursday.
Rays and Red Sox are tied and if they both win/lose then we'll have an BOS@TB tiebreaker on Thursday.

If Texas and Detroit end up tied, Detroit gets the #2 seed.
If Arizona and Milwaukee end up tied, Arizona gets the #2 seed. If Arizona loses tonight this won't be a possibility.

Oh... my... fucking... God.

Having just allowed 5 runs to L.A. in the top of the tenth inning, Arizona, down 6-1, sees its first two batters make outs, and then:

(Hawkesworth pitching)

Cole Gillespie singles on a weak infield ground after the pitcher FORGETS TO COVER FIRST BASE.
Miguel Montero singles Gillespie to third, then takes second on defensive indifference.
Chris Young walks. Bases loaded.
John McDonald is safe on an error by third baseman Aaron Miles. Run scores, bases still loaded.

(Guerra pitching)

Aaron Hill draws a walk. Score now 6-3, and bases are STILL loaded.

And then....

Ryan Roberts hits the first pitch he sees over the left-field fence. Walk-off grand slam. Arizona wins 7-6.

This is the DBacks season in a microcosm, folks. Holy fucking hell. Are you KIDDING ME????

This'll make you laugh... Micah Owings pitches the tenth inning, allows five runs, and gets the win. Wow.
