I know that she has had the longest run as the #1 player without having a major title in women's tennis history.

Yeah the feminine tennis is quite open those past few months, contrary to the masculine tennis where the Top players dominate the games in every major tournaments.

Tsonga really is a player who has an enthusiasm that is communicative, and that is so enjoyable to watch. Federer had never lost a match after having won the first two sets. I wonder how he'll fare against Djokovic. But yesterday he defeated Federer, and a couple of weeks ago he had defeated Nadal. In this kind of form, with this kind of tennis, I'd say he can beat anyone.

What I know about tennis: Sharapova isn't very good on clay (I watched a match once when I was bored on a cruise ship and clay was not her friend that day) and Andy Roddick is quite possibly the most overrated tennis player ever (he's only considered top ten because he's American, if he were from any other country then he wouldn't even be a top fifty player).

What do you mean "considered Top 10" ? A player's rank isn't determined by his nationality but by his results...

Well, Roddick has never won anything of note but he's in the news all the time.

I don't know how often he is in the news in the US, but even if he isn't the player he used to be, Roddick did win tournaments, include important ones.

Um... I'm going to have to call "bullshit" on you there, Boosh.

He won the U.S. Open in 2003. I'd certainly call that "of note". He's also been to four other Grand Slam finals: the '06 U.S. Open, and Wimbledon in '04, '05 and '09 (losing all four times to Federer).

Okay, so I got one tiny detail wrong. But he definitely isn't the big deal the American media makes him out to be (Face it, it will be years before Americans can find a guy as good as Pete Sampras. Roddick was lucky to arrive when his career was winding down.).

Okay, there I have to agree with you. Mardy Fish is good but will never be Top 5.

I think the best bet for men's tennis in America right now is a kid named Ryan Harrison. He is starting to turn heads. He's young, quick, and has hella talent. I hope he fulfills his potential, because I've seen him play, and he has loads of it.

As for the women... I can't think of one American girl to step up and take over from the Williams sisters, who clearly are on the downside of their careers. What a shame.

I don't follow tennis much, but every time I see a story about Andy Roddick it's about him either coming up short or completely screwing up. That's the media, though. Wikipedia says he won one major (the US Open in 2003).

Well, shit, Anna Kournikova never won ONE tournament. She was one of the hottest ladies who ever lived, though, so it didn't matter much. Lucky for Roddick, he's married to Banks's avatar. (Grin.)

Boosh, you say the Roddick was lucky that he came along at the end of Sampras' career, well I can easily make the counter argument that he came along as the same time that Roger Federer, arguably THE GREATEST MALE TENNIS PLAYER OF ALL TIME was hitting his prime, then was on the decline as Rafael Nadal, the successor to Federer was starting to begin his climb to the top. If these two weren't around, Roddick would have been a much more successful player. Like Shryke said, he lost 3 Major finals to Federer, and that 09 Wimbledon Finals was the greatest match I've ever seen.
