Pat Summitt, one of the great coaches in the history of sports in general, has been diagnosed with early onset dementia. Her 8 NCAA championships are the most of any NCAAW coach. She said she's still going to coach, but her assistants are going to take on more responsibility.

The Mountain West Conference and Conference USA are to merge into one 22-team football conference. I cannot see this working very well at all.

I think its actually a good idea, as most analysts, and I would include myself in this, believe that we are headed for a 4 super-conference NCAA, with 16 teams ending up in what used to be the Pac-10, Big 10, Big 12, and either the ACC or Big East (looking like the ACC at the moment). Now, most if not all of the Mountain West/Conference USA teams would not be invited to join these 4 super-conferences, so forming their own, massive conference wouldn't be a bad idea, to combat them.

But how would you schedule? You have 11 teams in each division and just 8 conference games. It would be a nightmare to figure out who plays who.

Expect the Big 12 to take at least two of these teams (I still expect them to offer Memphis a deal to join their conference).
