Re: The Sports Corner - Talking All Kinds Of Sports
I'm very cautious with South American teams. There's a dynamic in the team that bodes well for France, and if we play as well as we played the Swiss, we should do fine. I wish Ecuadoar hadn't beaten Honduras, we would have had 1st place of the group in the pocket. But we have a strong shot at it still.
I've watchedthe game last night at my brother in law's bar, which was packed in a great atmosphere, it was crazy.

This is the most open World Cup of all time. No winning team has performed to expectation. It's a brilliant, beautiful, mystery.

It would be the craziest World Cup of all-time if the US made the final (either way, I'm willing to bet that Klinsmann's gone after this one).

It is, surprises keep coming in. Iran was this close to keeping 0-0 vs Argentina. Amazing.numbersix wrote:This is the most open World Cup of all time. No winning team has performed to expectation. It's a brilliant, beautiful, mystery.

I watched the Germany v. Ghana match and first half of the "Nigerian Screwjob" today. Great stuff.

Nigerian Screwjob? Is that anything like the Montreal Screwjob?

Less spitting on billionaires. I used that term specifically to reference the Hitman and see if anyone would notice.

Vince the businessman probably didn't care (he's still got most of his net worth). But Vince the wrestler probably got roid rage.

Wow, that USA-Portugal match had my heart pumping. My other half is Portuguese so I was relieved at the 95th (!) minute goal.
Both teams had major problems, and were the inverse of each other. Portugal had better ball control but were sluggish. USA were fast as hell but couldn't finish. Sadly it's unlikely Portugal will get through unless the beat Ghana by a lot and Germany destroy the US.

There's a large Portugese community here in France, so everyone was cheering them too (even more because they were playing against those yankees Hey, I'm kidding guys !).
I watched the Korea/Algeria game with my other half who was born in Korea, and we were crushed by that beating they took from the Algerians. And like Portugal, it would take a miracle for them to qualify, beat the shit out of Belgium while Russia beats Algeria on the smallest margin.
Now I can concentrate on the France cheering !

True, it's unlikely for Korea to win, but at least they played well and delivered one of the most exciting games of the tournament.

Well they played well during one half-time only against Algeria. Had they played like they did in second-half during the entire game, the outcome might have been different. Too bad. They woke up too late. It's true it was an exciting game though.
