Re: Found Sounds
Welcome back, Surfer!
For today, I've got a candy-coated pop/alternative song from 1991. I suspect most of you won't like this: the melody and lyrics are overly simplistic, the song sounds dated, and let's face it, it's only about two steps away from "Barbie Girl". But, for some strange reason, I just love it. It's probably the slightly hard-edged twang in Susan Ottaviano's voice.
Book of Love, "Alice Everyday"

Re: Found Sounds
have been a bit swamped... I hopefully will be able to get around to listing to the last few songs later this afternoon, but youtube is slow and jerky in the office these days so that may or may not work out...
At least we can abort fetuses. Bad grammar and language last a lifetime.

Re: Found Sounds
Shryke: The Call song was interesting, although mostly to see how the music of Talking Heads and Television were diluted into the guitar pop of the early-to-mid 80's. Book of Love song was blocked.
Becs: Pleasant
Buscemi: I was kinda disappointed by now nice the music was. I wonder if that's what Zappa was aiming for.
My choice is encroaching on Shryke territory, but this band came from the socially-aware acts of the late 70's like Gang of 4 and The Clash. They made 2 albums and broke up, with I believe the lead singer becoming a lawyer eventually. Punk rock meets punky women's lib, it's...

I'm feeling some blast from the (my) past this week, so I bring you some stuff I liked in my teens/tweens that you guys are unlikely to have heard of.

Re: Found Sounds
Shryke, just read that the lead singer of The Call died last week. Sorry to break the bad news to ya.
Re: Found Sounds
Not exactly unknown but not very much exposure for this band. They only stayed together for one studio album and it is fantastic. Odd video as it is live footage but the studio song version for audio but it's best one I could find.
Acroma - Sun Rises Down
After 8 or 9 fucking tries, here's the fucking link, find it yourself.

Damn that's a coincidence. And it sucks, too. Michael Been had a terrific voice.numbersix wrote:Shryke, just read that the lead singer of The Call died last week. Sorry to break the bad news to ya.
Moving on:
This band formed in 1981, has been recording since 1983, and is still recording today. I know, given how the lead singer's voice sounds, could easily be mistaken as a German version of Depeche Mode. If you listen to their songs "The Great Commandment" and "Love is a Shield", you'll know what I mean. Also check out "Heaven (I Want You)" if you get a chance. But my favorite song of theirs is easily this one, and here is a live version.
Camouflage, "That Smiling Face"

Re: Found Sounds
Six: liked it. Reminded me of Blondie.
becs: pretty cool, but they sound like they're trying to hard to be The Ramones.
Donte: fixed the link. Good stuff.
Since I posted that Camoflage song, I can't stop listening to it. Wow.
For today, a song from 1989 that was actually a remake of a Top 20 song from 1968 by The Status Quo.
If the voice sounds familiar, it's David Lowery, who went on to form Cracker.
Camper Van Beethoven, "Pictures of Matchstick Men"

Thanks Shrykey. What am I doing wrong? I just copied the code and pasted it into the you tube video brackets and tried just copying.
