Been listening to a couple of bands recently. First up is Titus Andronicus, I'd say fans of The Airborne Toxic Event, The Hold Steady, possibly Arcade Fire and The National's rockier stuff would enjoy them.

Also been listening to The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, a band certainly influenced by the late 80s/ early 90s movement, and it's just some nice stuff to drive along to.

Another day, some more music:

Definitely a touch of Jesus And Mary Chain in here, but it's pretty good:

And another band I have known about for ages but just haven't listened to any of their stuff yet. I think this has intrigued me to listen to some more:

Foals have some great songs (some not-so-great ones too). Check out Blue Blood, Black Gold, What Remains, Olympic Airways, and Mathletics. All great songs.

Another song I recently discovered. From 2003, and featuring The English Beat's Rankin' Roger. (Good to see him again!)

Smash Mouth. Nothing but a bunch of sellouts.

Here's some Arnold tribute metal.

I think I'm gonna pick up Foals' latest album, from listening to some of their songs it seems they certainly matured on their second album. And I could never stand Smash Mouth.

Anyway, some more new stuff for me:

First up is Ramona Falls, with this great song called I Say Fever. So many layers to this, mixing grooves and a epic chorus. Great video too.

Also been listening to Sennen, with a very different, more etheral, expansive sound. This is Where The Light Gets In.

If you like Ramona Falls you should check out Menomena, the RF lead singer is a member of Menomena. Their Friend and Foe record is one of the best of the last decade

I don't know what video holds the record for the greatest volume of bikini-clad T&A, but this one has got to be close.

Gentlemen, start your boners.

The lyrics suck, but the beat's not bad.

An interesting teaming of the late Basil Poledouris and his daughter, Zoe. (yes, the composer of Conan The Barbarian worked with John Waters)

I know I posted this song on Page 3, but I have to post it again. It's been a year since I re-discovered this song, and I have scarcely gone a day since that I haven't played it at least a few times.

Needless to say, if we were to redo our Top 100 songs, this one would be on it. VERY HIGH. Perhaps even Top 20. It mixes the vocal tones of Depeche Mode's best stuff with the synth wizardry of Gary Numan or Kraftwerk... how can I NOT love it?

I've recently been listening to more of this indie band Yellow Ostrich. I've actually been following them since they got started, as I had a couple classes with the frontman in college and even gave him some friend to friend feedback on some of his really early songwriting efforts. He had a different band while we were on campus, but this is his branch-out solo / post-graduation project.

They just released the music video for this song today, but I'm having some trouble getting it to embed here. So, this is the same audio with different visuals, and they're pretty minimal -- don't judge it on that basis alone:

The Naked and Famous are pretty much the biggest band from NZ at the moment, I think they're ok but sound quite similar to a lot of other stuff. I bought The Joy Formidable's most recent LP based on that track, and while there are some cool songs on there it all becomes a little repetitive after a while and so hasn't been on too much of a heavy rotation on my MP3 player. Not bad choices though.

Two bands I have been enjoying lately though have been Yuck and The Vaccines:
