Today's Hit Songs

Post by Shrykespeare »

I have decided to start a thread where I will be posting the artists and songs (and, if they exist, links to videos) from various Billboard charts that show what is hot RIGHT now. I may do one different chart every week on a four-week rotation, otherwise I'll just be posting the same songs every week. So what I will probably do is this:

Week One: Top Songs from the "Rock" Chart
Week Two: Top Songs from the "Hot 100"
Week Three: Top 10 Songs in the U.K.
Week Four: ???

For Week Four, I'm open to suggestions... I can any do of the following charts: Pop, Dance/Club Play, Hip Hop/R&B, Radio Songs, or Digital Songs. (I don't want to do more than one of these, because they tend to overlap a lot.) I can also post what are the Top Albums, though those won't come with links. If you don't like any of these, I can just do a three-week rotation.

I fully expect everyone to give their opinions! You didn't hold back before, don't start now!! What songs do you like? Which do you hate? You know the drill by now...

Anyway, as of 6/26, here are the Top songs from the "Rock" chart, which combines alternative, mainstream and triple A songs.

(Stone Temple Pilots AND Alice in Chains? Did I just go back in time?)

#1. Three Days Grace, "The Good Life"

#2. The Dirty Heads feat. Rome, "Lay Me Down"

#3. Shinedown, "The Crow and the Butterfly"

#4. Stone Temple Pilots, "Between the Lines"

#5. Phoenix, "1901"

#6. Thirty Seconds to Mars, "This Is War"

#7. Rise Against, "Savior"

#8. Cage the Elephant, "In One Ear"

#9. Muse, "Uprising"

#10. Ozzy Osbourne, "Let Me Hear You Scream"

This looks like a great idea. Here are a couple of other sites which could offer something:

Pitchfork's new music - http://pitchfork.com/reviews/best/tracks
MTV 2 Official Rock Chart - http://www.mtv.co.uk/music/charts/offic ... art#162433

I might be interested in doing a flashback chart. People seemed to enjoy my "Number 1 song when you were born" note on my Facebook account.
Everything on this post is strictly the opinion and only the opinion of Buscemi.

Pitchfork is probably promising they have a more offbeat/indie vibe that would be a great week 4.

Is this list the current top 20 in USA?

This song:

#19. The Temper Trap, "Sweet Disposition"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4C8e7nNLZNs

was released in Australia in 2008?!?!

This song really grew on me at the time, and he has an incredibly powerful voice.

This is according to Billboard Magazine's website, which is American, yes.

I gotta say, I freakin' LOVE that Alice in Chains song, it just reeks of Layne Staley's ghost. Reminds me a lot of "No Excuses" musically, and the vocals are impeccable.

I would totally be down for a dance or R&B week, but I'm sure that wouldnt be as popular with the 'verse, so i won't demand because I'm sure some of them would show up on the top 100, but i would like it.

Maybe we can do a oldies week, start from top 50 of the 1920s, then next week do the 30s, I've always wanted to go more in depth to the really oldies. Although it might be a little hard to find the songs on youtube. Still think it would be great fun

Some notes...

Wow, eminem might actually be back...

And Drowning Pool? I thought they were finished.

Funny about Temper Trap.

Phoenix.....simply awesome! That new album from them, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is one of the best ive heard from the 2000's, or ever!

Once a week is heaps S, we've got a fair few vids already on the Countdown. But yeah, good idea.
