100 Greatest Frontmen - Nomination Thread
I've often wondered where a few frontmen have stacked up to others, so I've devised a list/game to see. Just for clarification, the frontman can only be the lead vocalist for a group, which there could be more than one (for instance, The Beatles). I'd like to do at least one more with lead guitarists if this works out well. I also realize that a guitarist can also be a frontman, so they would qualify for both depending on what you think of their merits in each.
Here's how it'll work:
The Nomination (aka this) Thread
We'll be breaking it up into rounds... In round one, you will nominate five frontmen from any genre. Once we get at least 10 people's five (making 50), or until it seems no one else is interested, we'll start the subsequent rounds.
In rounds 2-6 (or more), you can second 2 and nominate 2, but only once per round (so we don't rush the process and everyone gets an equal chance). Once we get 100 seconds or after the 100 greatest songs is complete, whichever is last as I don't want to take away from the 100 songs, we'll move to the knockout thread.
So I can just cut and paste alphabetically, I'd love it if you could do: last name, first name (band or bands) while nominating.
Knockout Thread
I'll be aiming for one round every 3-4 days (say Wednesday and Sunday or something). The specifics for each round may change slightly if we need to get more/less out at a given time or need to rank more/less.
Round 1-5
Rank who you think are the 20 least best. The one you think is the least best left will get 20 points, the 20th least best will get 1 point. The ten with the most points will be axed from contention ranked overall to total points that round. That would leave us with 50.
Round 6-8 or 9
Rank 15, get rid of 5. That would leave us with 35 or 30.
Round 9 or 10 - 13
Rank 10, get rid of 5. That would leave us with 10.
Rounds 14 and 15
Rank 5, get rid of 5. That would be all of them.
Like I said, this is just a guideline, if we need to adjust it, we can so it won't get way too many/way too little ranked/axed.

Re: 100 Greatest Frontmen - Nomination Thread
the only one i can think of is gwen stefani. and how can you nominate cash, i wasnt aware that he was in a band?
Re: 100 Greatest Frontmen - Nomination Thread
I don't know, we could nix solo artists, but to me they are basically the face of an entire band which they pick instead of form. For instance, when he started out it was "Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Two." Like Buddy Holly and the Crickets or James Brown and the whatever his band was called... We can do it however we collectively want. Anyone else can give a yay or nay.undeadmonkey wrote:the only one i can think of is gwen stefani. and how can you nominate cash, i wasnt aware that he was in a band?
And you can only think of Gwen Stefani? Seriously? You could nominate John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Iggy Pop, Bruce Dickinson, Axl Rose, David Bowie, Tina Turner, Prince, Ozzy, David Lee Roth, or any of the thousands out there...
Here's a list of 200 to get your mind going (if you want)... http://digitaldreamdoor.nutsie.com/page ... ntmen.html
Johnny Cash isn't on there either.
PS: I'm not at home yet (watched Toy Story 3 3D). I'll update then.

Re: 100 Greatest Frontmen - Nomination Thread
Didn't notice this thread, seriously though, only five? This is gonna be tough narrowing these down. I'll nominate:
Iggy Pop (The Stooges)
Ian Curtis (Joy Division)
Brian Wilson (The Beach Boys)
Black Francis (Pixies)
Thom Yorke (Radiohead)
I had a list of easily 20 very, very good frontmen though.
