Just a heads up that I'll be taking over Patrick's Songs of the Year list from now on.

I'm going to aim to do a Top 25 (with 3-5 Honorable Mentions), and I'd like to start Weds Jan 3rd, before the music of 2024 begins to bombard us.

I'll remind y'all next month, but if you're interested let me know.

I'll see if I can wrangle in a few of the old crew as well, just to honor the big guy.

Sounds good. I look forward to introducing you all to a young, up-and-coming band by the name of Sparks.

Glad to listen to some new Sparks!

Also, Surfer said he'll join us, so expect some perfectly-curated indie music.

Cool. My Spotify Wrapped dropped today to remind of what I actually listened to the most this year, so I started working on a rough list that I'll fiddle with until we start in January.

I'm going to try to send you as much as I can between now and Jan 3rd, because come January I'll be deep in pre-production on my short which shoots in early February, so I'll probably be very busy and won't be around much for the customary banter.

I'll try to listen to everyone else's picks, but it won't be right away.

How do you want to handle honourable mentions?

I've finalized my list and I'm about to start sending you stuff, but I'll hold off on posting the bonus tracks for now if you want to post them all at once.

I'll post each track from everyone each day.

With honorable mentions you can post yourself when I start the thread on Jan 3rd with an aim to post #25 on Jan 4th.

John, got your tracks so thanks for that. Guys, feel free to feed things to me asap

Okay, here's 3 honorable mentions before my Top 25 starts

The Serfs: Club Deuce

Suicide-inspired electro-punk

Protomartyr: Polacrix Kid

The best song I've heard about quitting smoking

Nuha Ruby Ra: My Voice

Promising start to this moody musician

Time for my honourable mentions before we jump into the official countdown. I'm more used to doing a top 30, which seems like a nice, round number, so I've got a few more bonus tracks than Six.

Sparks - Veronica Lake

You're all pretty well versed in the Sparks sound by now, which is quite a change from when I first started posting their songs here years before Edgar Wright brought them to the attention of a whole new audience. There's no need to overwhelm you all with picks from the latest Sparks album, which is my favourite of 2023, but I wanted to squeeze this one into the honourable mentions. You film buffs might get a kick out of this song, based on a remarkable true story

Peter One - Cherie Vico

Another song from this album will appear on my list, but this one is quite different in style so I figured I'd post it here.

Botticelli Baby - Poems

Same as with Peter One, this band will appear again with a fairly different sound.

Yo La Tengo - Sinatra Drive Breakdown

Same thing again. I'm trying to post as many different artists as possible, so my second favourite track from this album just misses the cut.

Andy Shauf - Catch Your Eye

There's always one or two tracks on my list that turn out to be from the previous year when I double-check the release dates, so that's the only reason I demoted this song to the honourable mentions.

Margo Price - Change Of Heart

More late 2022 goodness.
