John
Companion, How Could I Have Known?
Lovely stuff indeed. There just lacks something to definitely hook me, but it's nice.

Leestu
Denzel Curry is one of the best out there and continues to keep come up with great songs
Nah, not for me.

Shryke
Bastille, Shut Off the Lights
Hats off to them for being named after the long lost prison destroyed during the French revolution. But that's it. I mean it's okay. But I won't listen to it again.

Six
Arcade Fire, Unconditional II (Race and Religion)
F%@!, I still hadn't listened to Arcade Fire new album. Cool song. But I LOVED Everything Now ;)

Tranny
Cave In, Floating Skulls
That was indeed a bit better than your #14. I could listen to it without making a funny face.

John : Not my kinda country/Americana

Leetsu: Yes, it's lovely. Sits well in the album. Realised when listening to this that they remind me a lot of the 90s post-rock neo-classical act Rachel's, due to that stark sound. Good stuff.

Shryke: Yeah, not bad, liked the music and all the vocals.

Tranny: I swear I can hear some shouty vocals in the background. Funny how metal is closer to prog than we think. But, I did enjoy the glitchy elements that you wrote of, so not bad.

Tranny: The melodic, proggy side of it kept me interested for at least a minute, but then it kinda devolved into self-indulgent wanking.

I have nothing good to say about any of the rest, so onto the next round.

John: Not bad at all. The vocal harmonies are very soothing.

Leestu: A bit overhyped, but it's a great showcase for Denzel's lyrical and technical skills.

Shryke: This was actually tolerable, which is shocking considering that it's performed by the same people responsible for Pompeii.

six: Was already completely tapped out on Arcade Fire before the Win Butler allegations. Naturally, that lack of interest has only intensified in the wake of them. That guy fucking stinks.

John: Instrumentation is nice, but the vocals are too rooted in pure country for it to fully work for me.

Leestu: Listened to this record shortly after it came out. It's well-written, but not my bag at all.

Shryke: Bootie Brown is aptly named because those raps stink ;) Aside from that, it's solid. Production is a cool mix of funk, tropical and psychedelic and Kevin Parker is the ideal collaborator for Gorillaz.

six: It seemed like an explosion was going to happen with each progressively louder blast of distortion over the vocals, but alas it didn't, and the song felt like a missed opportunity because of it.

John
Jamestown Revival, These Days
That's still too countriesque for my taste.

Leestu
Black Country, New Road, Haldern
Not bad at all. It develops nicely.

Shryke
Gorillaz feat. Tame Impala & Bootie Brown, New Gold
I haven't listened to Gorillaz in a long time. I never heard that one. The rap part doesn't work for me, but the rest is alright.

Six
Gilla Band, Eight Fivers
It was a bit fun at one point, but it ended up boring me a bit.

Tranny
Animals as Leaders, Conflict Cartography
Without the screams, it's easier to listen to. But I'm still no fan of the music.

JohnErle - Companion Piece - This was quite lovely.

Leestu - Lemon Curry? - I just can't get into anything this genre produces. Can't really pinpoint why.

Six - Where There's Arcade Smoke - I haven't heard the controversy... what's the lowdown? Sounds ugly, whatever it is. Anyway, song was decent.

Tranny - Caveman (Without the Grunting) - This was quite interesting. May have to listen a few more times.

JohnErle - JtR - Not country enough to offend me, not edgy enough for me to remember it.

Leestu - BCNR - Interesting dichotomy, with the twinkly piano and soulful horns paired with the guy's utterly depressing voice.

Six - Gorillaz (minus ORZ) Band - There was not one thing I liked about this.

Tranny - AAL - Slappin' da bass! Slappin' da bass! This was pretty freaking awesome.

Pitchfork did an expose and interviewed several fans he seduced, and then got kinda creepy and pretended to be friends but got increasingly sexually obsessed. I wouldn't say what he did was illegal, but he certainly used his fame and status to take advantage of them.

SONG #11

JOHNERLE

The Dead Tongues, Pawnshop Dollar Bills

This is a song of two halves, and while I like both, it's the long instrumental jam at the end that makes this song rank close to my top 10 instead of further down the list.

LEESTU

Sprints, Delia Smith

The last Sprints song. It was just one of those Eps that grabbed me first listen and kept bringing me back to listen to again and again.

SHRYKESPEARE

The 1975, Oh Caroline

Getting suicidal?
It's honestly not for me
I'm gettin' on my nerves
By gettin' on my knees

Getting cucked, I don't need it
The place I want to be
Is somewhere in your heart
Somewhere guaranteed

It's great to see a band that have been friends long before they decided to make music together. The 1975 fits that description, having met in secondary school in Cheshire, England and performing for the first time as teenagers. Fast forward to 2022, when they put out their fifth studio album Being Funny in a Foreign Language, and it's after hearing that album that I became a big fan. Four songs from that album made my Top 100, and this one is the highest. It's fitting that the video shows the band made up to appear as old men, which given their closeness may very well be how they all look three decades from now.

SIX

Viagra Boys, Ain’t No Thief

At the time of writing I am finally going to see these Scandi lads perform live, and I’ve been waiting literally for years. And I really hope they play this song, with its driving rhythm that pulses like a beefy engine, and its satirical lyrics.

TRANNY

The Smile, The Smoke

The tastiness of the bassline and just how immense Thom Yorke sounds singing over it made "The Smoke" the peak of The Smile's debut effort.

Happy 60th birthday Jet Li! (4/26/23)

Sprints – It didn't seem as ear-splittingly loud as the previous tracks, maybe because it's an official video with a different mix, but it still seems like a lot of histrionics over nothing.

1975 – So very cheesy.

Viagra Boys – A lot more lively and catchy than your usual picks, but the lyrics are kinda dumb. I don't mind dumb rock lyrics on occasion, but I don't think this will stick with me, especially since it sounds like shit on Spotify.

Smile – As I think I said before, it's my second favourite song from the album, so excellent choice.

John: The feelings of desolation are deeply felt enough to carry this for 8 minutes. Some really terrific guitar playing on the latter half as well.

Leestu: Another good, noisy track from these guys. I'm going to have to check out the full EP.

Shryke: Typically don't like The 1975, but this is pretty catchy and Matt Healy's vocals are a lot more palatable here than usual.

six: This was WILD. Never heard dance-punk that is this aggressive, manic or sarcastic before.

John: Companion
I have nothing bad to say...its nice...nothing more

Shryke: Bastille
The sax solo was the only thing worth liking and that wasn't that good either

Six: Arcade Fire
Its a good album but I didn't particularly like this song much, but then again I am with Chien in liking Everything Now, (my favourite album of theirs and I listened to it a lot) whereas I didn't like Refelktor which this reminds me of a bit

Tranny: Cave In
this was really good...liked the proggy stoner groove elements, and the ending was cool

#12

John: Jamestown Revival
agreed that this hits the sweet spot of folky americana

Shryke: Gorillaz
yes this is good, looking forward to the album

Six: Gilla Band
pushes the edge of what is too discordant for me and I love that

Tranny: Animala As Leaders
not bad, I got caught up in the music a bit

John: Neither part particularly grabbed my attention

Leetsu: Wow, 3 songs in your top 30? You may be their #1 fan. This was another fun one.

Shryke: These guys are on my radar, getting massive praise from critics and they're pretty popular. But this song just sounded like someone used an AI programme to generate an 80s style pop song. They should really be called The 1985

Tranny: Tis a miracle indeed.
