Yeah, Mick had a thing for putting Mars bars in women's vaginas.

Anyway, looking at this round.

Firstly, it's good to see it expand, looks like it's catching on, which is always a good thing. I hope to see Chien join us, from what I know his music taste is pretty good.

Back to this round, it still remains the same in terms of the highlights. NSpan and SS have typically the most compatible choices with me. Leetsu dropped a litle, I guess because of the Happy Mondays and Killers picks. You need to work harder on your taste, Leets ;) Everyone else was mostly mixed as usual. Shryke's picks seem to be getting stronger, I'm moving from indifferent to his 80's choices to somewhat interested, which is a start! A big surprise this round came from Tranny, who amongst the awful metal played us a few great tracks, and I may even listen to some more Dillinger Escape Plan. My favourites of the rounds so far were SS's Weezer song, Banks's Al Green tune, and Nspan's Yardbirds pick. 2 songs chosen from this round will feature in my list, both probably making my Top 25! That's a total of 7 songs picked so far that are coming up on my list, and interestingly none of them have been from NSpan or SS.

I extend my welcome to the new additions of Banks, Barca, and Englishozy, but I have to say, I haven't really like any of your songs so far.

And, on THAT note, let's move on.

I've been ordering my list backwards. Currently, I only have 100-61 in order. I figure I'll stick with the reverse-ordering method until I get to 51--mostly because it's easy to discern whether a song is "Top 50 material" or not. But, at THAT point, I'm gonna have to buckle-down and just order all 50 in one sitting. Anyone else (still) been puttin' this off?

The Happy Mondays pick was worth it just for your response. I'm thinking it might be worth sticking some more bad picks in just to get some more rants.

I definitely recognize our shared musical interests. At the risk of repeating myself, I didn't make my list with indie-cred in mind (unlike some galactic emissaries we know). So most of my list will be from bands you're familiar with (even if it's not necessarily the most obvious song choices). With that in mind: I feel like, at some point (after this Top 100 countdown), we need to pool our collective knowledge of lesser-known favorites and spread the word on some promising up-and-comers. I got some great obscure tracks that didn't make my Top 100 but deserve to be heard (and talked about) nonetheless.

I kind of have my top ten set in stone. They haven't changed since day one. But beyond that I've tweeked here and there a little. Shryke has my 61st pick now, so I am limited now in how much I can play with the list, but daily I find myself moving a song up or down a place or two.

Anyway, as for this thread, I've seen a definite upturn in quality, for the most part. I'm starting to warm to a couple of Shryke's picks (though I think he has hated pretty much of everything I've thrown at him so far!), NSpan has been consistent if not mindblowing, six's picks have been awesome for the most part while Geez has dropped a little unfortunately. Becs picks I have largely enjoyed, UDM I have largely tried to avoid, Leestu has continued to impress more than I thought he would and Buscemi has proven their is more to music than movie soundtracks! Silversurfer's picks have been almighty good, transformers' has had a shockingly good round, W has proved their is more to his repertoire than country, while banks' have been a real struggle. Ozzy and Barca have started kinda middling, lots of room to improve.

Overall favourite songs of the round were:

transformers - The Clash, London Calling
transformers - Between the Buried and Me, Desert of Song
Six - The White Stripes, Fell in Love With a Girl
Six - Nick Drake, River Man
NSpan - Toadies, Paper Dress
Geezer - The Who, Won't Get Fooled Again
Becs - David Bowie, Changes
Becs - Portishead, Glory Box
Becs - Tool, Schism

Three of my songs, including the Portishead one which I listed at no.99 have now appeared across the lists, and two of those appeared in one round but overall I thought more would have popped up by now. I have now bought over 35 albums since this idea started, I'm slowly going bankrupt, but at least I'll be able to listen to some great music when sleeping in my cardboard box...

And to be honest I'm not trying to be credible when making my list, NSpan, for the most part everyone has disliked the majority of my songs. I just listed all the songs I love the most, it's not my fault I grew up in the UK music scene (and I believe six knows most of my stuff). When we hit the top 50 I'm sure there will be a lot more bands in my list which are well known enough by everyone. And if not, then stuff you and go to indie-cred school!

Suuure. I'm just givin' ya a healthy ribbing, anyway.

PS. Leestu seemed to be the only one interested, but "Conditional" is about a cat.

Nah, surfer, I haven't HATED everything you've "thrown at me". Truth is, I rate music like I rate movies... if it's just okay, I give it a 5. And I've given most of your picks a 5, 6 or 7. The only reason you are a little below the others is that you have only given me one song that I really, really like (James's "Laid"), and that's been it. There've been only three songs so far ("Repeater", "Hey" and "Invalid Litter Dept.") that I've actively disliked. So don't lose heart, there's hope yet.

Buscemi and W rebounded tremendously this thread after getting off to terrible starts with me in the first two. Six slipped a little, but otherwise, it was damn close between everyone except Banks. Ozzy is off to a terrific start, and Barca's not doing too shabby.

Oh, and by the way, Ron Burgundy will be joining us tonight officially. So that's FIFTEEN.

My analysis of this round:

Favorite Songs I've Heard Before:
The Ramones, Blitzkreig Bop (10) - leestu
Wheatus, Teenage Dirtbag (10) - englishozzy
Herbie Hancock, Rockit (10) - Buscemi
Simon & Garfunkel, The Boxer (10) - Buscemi

Favorite Songs I've Never Heard Before:
Within Temptation, Stand My Ground (10) - englishozzy
Between the Buried and Me, Desert of Song (9) - transformers
Sugarcult, Memory (8) - Geezer
The Smiths, Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now (8) - numbersix
Jamin Winans, John's Walk (8) - BarcaRulz

Based on points I've assigned each song, here is the average score for everyone else this thread:

8.0 - englishozzy (5 songs)
6.5 - BarcaRulz (2 songs)
6.4 - Buscemi
6.3 - leeestu, W
6.2 - becs, Geezer
6.0 - transformers
5.9 - undeadmonkey
5.8 - NSpan
5.4 - numbersix, silversurfer
4.4 - Banks

And here's how everyone is doing overall:

8.0 - englishozzy (5)
6.6 - Geezer (30)
6.5 - BarcaRulz (2)
6.4 - Becs (30)
6.2 - undeadmonkey (30)
5.9 - leestu (30)
5.8 - Buscemi (30)
5.6 - numbersix (30)
5.4 - NSpan (30)
5.4 - transformers (30)
5.3 - silversurfer (30)
5.2 - W (30)
4.4 - Banks (10)

And now, here's a preview of my next ten songs (in chronological, not numerical, order):

A 1983 hit song by a long-tenured blues-rock band from Texas.
A 1986 song by a well-known English electronic band (2nd of 3 appearances).
A 1986 song by an English alt-pop band.
A 1991 song by an English pop-jazz funk band (1st of 2 appearances).
A 1992 hit song by an English alt-hip-hop group.
A 1992 song by a Scottish pop-rock group.
A 1992 song by an English pop-electronic artist/producer (2nd of 3 appearances).
A 1995 song by a very influential British alt-electronic-experimental group.
A 1998 song by an American alt-rock group.
A 2002 hit song by very successful American rapper.

Just a quick question, are mashups allowed? There is one that IMO trumps both original songs and since one of the original songs is on my list I might replace it with the mash-up. (or I could just post the link to the mash-up, whatever is more acceptable I guess!).

Oh, I didn't mean for a pre-existing song. This is just for future reference. The song in question is higher up my list.
