71. Down-and-dirty blues-rock from the down-and-dirtiest blues-rock band of 1965.
72. Heavy shit from the guys doing it heaviest in 1971.
73. A R&B/soul classic from 1957.
74. A 1968 cover of a Dylan song that Dylan himself wouldn't release for another three years.
75. A '65 blues-rock staple that had been covered before and would go on to be covered countless more times.
76. An extended jam by the "other" guys from all those "supergroups." From 1971.
77. A 2003 album-track from a short-lived Texas alt-rock band.

So I never posted a recap of this thread so I thought I could get to it tonight. Hopefully it won't take me another thread's worth of songs to do one for 80-71.

I excluded all songs that appear on my list, as they are too obvious and no fun to just throw up at the top, so here we go, top 10 that I had heard, and top 10 that I hadn't:

Previously Heard (this is actually a spectacular list):

10. becs- Soundgarden- "Black Hole Sun"
9. Buscemi- Weird Al Yankovic- "Albuquerque"
8. transformers- Nirvana- “Lounge Act”
7. leestu- Rammstein- “Du Hast”
6. silversurfer- The Black Crowes- “Hard To Handle”
5. W/Boush- Beck- “Loser”
4. Six- Bill Withers- “Ain't No Sunshine”
3. becs- Heart- “Alone”
2. transformers- Outkast- “Ms. Jackson”
1. Shrykespeare- Led Zeppelin- “Kashmir”

Had Not Previously Heard:

10. transformers- Mastodon- “Oblivion”
9. NSpan- Elf Power- “An Old Familiar Scene”
8. leestu- Neil Young- “Needle & The Damage Done”
7. undeadmonkey- The Lovemakers- “Love is Dead”
6. leestu- U2- “All I Want Is You”
5. NSpan- George Harrison- “Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)”
4. becs- Morrissey, “You Have Killed Me”
3. leestu- Ani Difranco- “Untouchable Face” (1996)
2. silversurfer- My Vitriol- “Always: Your Way”
1. becs- Brave Saint Saturn- “Resistor”

I would combine the lists, but the list of songs that I had heard is so strong, that I'm afraid that only becs' "Resistor" would knock her own Black Hole Sun out of the 10 spot and the rest would remain the same. That's not to say there wasn't a lot of outstanding previously unheard stuff, but the stuff I had heard was just amazing.

So tabulating this round, becs and leestu had 4, tranny 3, surfer, NSpan and boush with 2, UDM, W, Six,and Shryke all had one each 1 (but at least you had the number one overall song Shryke, AGAIN! I seem to be very love hate with you!)

Overall totals:

leestu- 8
surfer- 6
becs- 6
tranny- 4
NSpan- 4
Boush- 3
Six- 3
Shryke- 3
UDM- 2
W- 2

So everyone that has done these from the beginning actually appeared on both lists. That's outstanding! Leestu clearly has the lead, which is a little surprising because I feel you are fairly inconsistant, but your highs are absolutely excellent. I definitely think becs is the most in line with my overall tastes, and has been the most consistent, and Surfer keeps chugging along, introducing me to some awesome new stuff.

Its fun doing these, I get to be a lot less negative ;)

P.S. NSpan I finally figured out who that Brian Jonestown Massacre, “When Jokers Attack" song sounds like... It is very similar to The Guess Who's "No Time"
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man. - The Dude
