Leestu's Album of the Week

Postby Leestu » August 2nd, 2013, 6:05 am

While we were doing our favourite 100 albums I realised a couple of things.
1. There are way more than 100 albums that deserve acknowledgement as good albums.
2. Two or three songs are not enough to showcase an album.

Thinking about this I decided I would trial an album of the week concept with one track a day. So to kick it off here is an album by a band that I am seeing live tomorrow night.

British India
Thieves

This Australian indie rock band (with a dash of garage rock and punk) from Melbourne have released four studio albums so far and Thieves was their second album, released in 2008. This first selection was their second single from the album and is the opening track.

Good idea, Leetsu.

Can't say that song did a lot for me, but I'll certainly keep listening!

Today's selection is coincidentally track two on the album. I apologise if the quality is a bit poor but on youtube I'll take what I can get.

This Dance Is Loaded

Coming up tomorrow I will let the band help decide by choosing one of the album tracks that they play in tonight's set if they do.

So they played four tracks from this album. The two songs I've already played, the other single from the album, and this one.

I forgot to mention that the unknown support band to the support band (Stillwater Giants) did a decent version of Pixies Gouge Away, and British India played a cover of Flagpole Sitta by Harvey Danger. That bought back memories. Anyway today here is the requisite slow love song from the album.

Probably the most rough and raw song on the album but one of my favorites.

The first single from the album and the the first British India song I ever heard.

By the way my youngest son got over excited watching footy on Saturday which resulted in a drink and the laptop mixing together. So we're currently without a computer and doing this through my phone which does not seem to want to allow embedding, hence the links.

The closing track on the album and a favourite of my wife.

The Golden Years

In summary a solid album that may not have that instant 'this is something special' vibe but it definitely grows on you to become an accessible, enjoyable sing along album.

Coming up next: same place, same era, similar genre, very different sound.
