Rise Against - "The Sufferer and the Witness" (2006)

1.Intro/Chamber the Cartridge – 4 stars
2.Injection – 5 stars
3.Ready To Fall – 5 stars
4.Bricks – 5 stars
5.Under the Knife – 4 stars
6.Prayer of the Refugee – 5 stars

10.Behind Closed Doors – 5 stars
11.Roadside – 4 stars
12.The Good Left Undone – 5 stars
13.Survive – 5 stars

The absolute peak of Rise Against. They have since gotten bigger publicly, but worse musically. Doesn't stop this from being a top five album for me.

1.Prison Song – 5 stars
2.Needles – 4 stars
3.Deer Dance – 5 stars
4.Jet Pilot – 4 stars
5.X – 4 stars

I bought this album when I entered high school, and it practically never left my cd player the entire time I was there. Fell in love with the band and my love never left. I know most around here don't get it, so this is for those that do appreciate the Armenian Metal Gods. I don't think these have been featured yet.

And if you didn't see these top two coming, you probably haven't been paying attention....

Blink-182, "Enema of the State" (1999)

1.Dumpweed – 5 stars
2.Don't Leave Me – 5 stars
3.Aliens Exist – 4 stars
4.Going Away To College – 5 stars
5.What's My Age Again – 5 stars
6.Dysentery Gary – 5 stars
7.Adam's Song – 5 stars
8.All The Small Things – 5 stars
9.The Party Song – 4 stars
10.Mutt – 4 stars
11.Wendy Clear – 4 stars
12.Anthem – 5 stars

They are the defining band of my musical taste. They are icons of pop punk. They revolutionized an entire genre. I know a few of you hate them, but you all know and have known for years about my passion for this trio of California punks. Their second album in my countdown, both of which were featured in the top 10, this is the better of their two elite level albums. It's the album that introduced me to the band, and all these years later, it hasn't lost its appeal, or been topped. I'll exclude the radio hits, as I'm sure you are familiar.

Geezer: Nirvana, "Nevermind", 1991 - Well, at least I could rely on someone to make this their no.1! We all knew it was coming, and it is a very deserving record to finish at no.1. I was blown away by the record on first listen, and every listen since just continues to prove that these were very worthy of all their acclaim. As for your final records, I have a fond nostalgia for both the Blink and SOAD records. Both were records I listened to a lot in my late teens, they offered something a little different and fun to what was happening in the music scene at the time. Seeing the likes of All The Small Things and Chop Suey coming in and dominating the MTV channel proved rock music was still loved world over, we were not all just succumbing to the likes of Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys. So yeah, good fun music, that while perhaps I don't really listen to all that often any more, had their place in history. On the other hand, I haven't really been won over by the Rise Against record. I picked it up after you listed Prayer For The Refugee in the song countdown, but that for me was by far the standout of the album, which just doesn't come close to matching it.

As for the rest of your countdown, it's been quite a mix. While you obviously prefer a particular genre of music, it's interesting how while some of it I really like (Weezer, Green Day, Foo Fighters, JEW, The Clash, Nirvana, The Replacements), there was equally a fair portion of albums that didn't interest me at all (Dropkick Murphy's, Everclear, Fall Out Boy, Staind, Creed). Can't say I haven't been kept on tenterhooks in anticipation for how I will react each round though!

From your countdown, here are the records I have, or will soon seek out:

Against Me!, "Amerians Abroad!!! Live In London!!!", 2006
The Ramones, "Rocket To Russia", 1977
Lucero, "Lucero", 2001
Beastie Boys, "Licensed To Ill", 1996
Nirvana, "Incesticide", 1992

And you're very welcome Geez, I've had a lovely couple of weeks since the end of the countdown, it's amazing what you can achieve with an extra hour every day!

Oh, and is either ozzy or Ron ready to submit their no.1?

Metallica, "Metallica", 1991

Image

The very first rock band I saw live was Metallica, the very first album I actually bought was Metallica. Nostalgia plays a huge role in this being No.1 on my countdown but it helps that it is such an awesome album as well. I saw them play earlier this year and they still put out the same velocity in their shows as what they were doing 10 years ago. Metallica remains the most commercially successful album (ahead of Master of Puppets) and is regarded among critics and fans alike which is quite rare nowadays. Feel free to listen to the whole album on Youtube or Spotify but I am going to post my two favourite songs of the album.
