Depends what PJ you are after, as pretty much all her records have their own individual identity. For me, Dry is a great starting point as her debut, Rid Of Me is quite punky, To Bring You My Love seems to have a blues influence, Is This Desire explores more a electronic and piano led sound, while Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea is probably her most pop record, though with some brilliantly emotional tracks. Uh-Huh-Her is quite abrasive, but not really one of my favourites, White Chalk is quite sorrowful and almost spiritual. Let England Shake is quite folky, with sweeping landscapes of art. You really can't go wrong with whichever record you start with. For me though, I'd probably go with either Is This Desire, Stories or White Chalk.
That's a damn fine description of her albums. I've two more PJ albums coming up, but I won't say which for now. But let's just say it most certainly won't be Stories From the City ;)

For you, NSpan, I'd consider starting with Let England Shake (because it's folky) and maybe Rid of Me (Albini produced). But you might want to check out more songs on Is This Desire as it's a great introduction record too. (try Angeline, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_f7CWCZIqvY, Catherine, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mg3ZHDDqZew, and No Girl So Sweet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uh3-9e2kG4o).

I'd love to see someone make a movie about an earthquake hitting London for the sole reason of using Let England Shake in the trailer.

Now I'm sold. Candy Flip was pretty cool, but I wasn't a fan of Off With Their Heads however these two songs were great....right up my alley and what I am looking for in modern music nowadays. Quality music, some interesting sounds, and decipherable lyrics with a refreshing simplicity to them.

New stuff that I will check into further:
none, but the raveonettes and sonic youth were decent enough.

Stuff I've already heard that I like/love:
Live "Throwing Copper" (though I need to listen to the whole abum)

New stuff that I will check into further:

Stuff I've already heard that I like/love:
The Gaslight Anthem "Sink or Swim" (will be appearing much much later for me)
The Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" (though I think it is overrated. The highs are very high, but I just have no desire to ever listen to like half of the songs on it)
Faith No More "Angel dust"

New stuff that I will check into further:

Stuff I've already heard that I like/love:
Ramones "Ramones"
Rage Against the Machine "The Battle of Los Angeles" (obviously)

New stuff that I will check into further:
Bright eyes "I'm Wide Awake It's Morning" (was already on the list, just reinforced here... I think I'm really going to like this one)
The Breeders "Last Splash" (I've heard Cannonball before, and I love it. Just never heard more. I think now is the time!)

Stuff I've already heard that I like/love:
Franz Fedinand "Franz Ferdinand"
Sum 41 "All Killer No Filler"
Smashing Pumpkins "Mellon collie and the Infinite Sadness" (almost made my list, one of the last 10 cut, ultimately too much filler for me, but the highs are so damn high)

74

New stuff that I will check into further:
Echo and the Bunnymen "Ocean Rain" (glad you posted a third, i didn't like the second)
crowded house was ok, but i doubt i'll get to it.

Stuff I've already heard that I like/love:
Oasis "What's The story Morning Glory"
Sum 41 "Does This Look Infected" (another of my last cuts)
Judas Priest "British Steal" (killer stuff!)
