Party Down wasn't canceled. Starz forgot to extend the actor's contracts and by the time a third season was considered, it was too late.

"Forgetting to extend contracts" sounds like a nice way of saying CANCELED.

Starz wanted to do a third season and so did the actors. A deal just wasn't reached in time.

Reportedly, they may do a movie instead.

"After careful consideration, we’ve decided not to continue on with subsequent seasons of 'Party Down' ...” Starz executive vice president of programming Stephan Shelanski said in a statement.
That also sounds like a series that has been canceled.

Probably because so few people actually subscribe to Starz.

Actually, their subscription base has increased in the past few years. Spartacus made sure of it.

Sure, it increased, but you have to look at it in context. You can say, "yay, it increased!" but that doesn't mean anything on its own.

I mean, I'm almost at what, 70 posts now? Well, in the past few days, my 'post base' has increased. That's great, and I could go and trumpet that statistic, but when you look at someone like, I dunno, Buscemi, who has upwards of 5000, my little spurt doesn't seem so significant, now does it?

That's the point I'm trying to make. If it increased, great, but are they in the HBO/Showtime category? Unlikely.

It's currently at 19 million subscribers and that number will more than likely grow. Picking up Torchwood was an excellent move (many of their new subscribers got it for that show) and they've also struck a deal with Sam Raimi to produce shows for them (he produced Spartacus and had a lot of success in syndication with Hercules and Xena). And their mini-series (Camelot, The Pillars of the Earth) did well in the ratings. They aren't at an HBO or Showtime level yet but in the next few years, expect them to at least pass Showtime (who can't seem to imagine a world without Weeds, which they keep renewing even though it was supposed to end after four seasons).

Camelot wasn't a mini-series, it was supposed to be a full multi-season series but it got axed due to some financial and some contractual reasons.

It was promoted as a mini-series in the US. Did well in its timeslot too (even beating some network shows).

I didn't want to create an entire thread for this, but I thought it was funny (and it references SNL). Ben and Jerry's are doing a limited batch of Schweddy Balls ice cream just in time for the holidays. No joke.
