I tried watching BoJack Horseman on Netflix earlier now. I did not get it. Basically, it's a mix of tired stoner gags, painful animal puns and tasteless bestiality jokes with an unlikeable lead and no explanations of why humanoid animals and people live together. I guess this is popular with people who like bizarre, random humor or see the Netflix logo as a seal of quality but it is not something that I want to revisit for future episodes.

By the way, why do pilots have to so boring nowadays? It might be people having better patience but my personal rule of thumb is that if a show doesn't hook me in the first ten minutes, I'm out. Older shows were good about hooking the viewer right away (older shows were also good about bringing in first-time viewers without locking them out with convoluted story arcs) but in today's age of binge-watching (a practice that needs to die), releasing a whole season day-and-date and multi-season renewals, it's as if the television people have become lazy and said, "Fuck the pilot. We'll wait five or six episodes before actually showing anything." That's as if a movie began and spent the first two-thirds having nothing happen and saved everything for the last half-hour. But maybe I just don't get television in general and why they all have to be the same thing over and over.

In other news, I actually found something I enjoy. Someone posted all of the Father Ted episodes on YouTube and I've watched the first three so far.

If I'm not careful, this might happen.

I just finished Series 1. It will probably take me two days to get through Series 2.

Episode1 of Season 2, where they go on holiday, is possibly the funniest 30 minutes you'll ever experience.

Fr Ted is so popular it's repeated every single year on national TV, and the Christmas Special is shown every Christmas Eve, without fail. That's a 19 year tradition.

I just watched the Hell episode. I now know to never attempt to Riverdance in a trailer.

Edit: I finished Series 2 and the Christmas Special.

Black Mirror has been pretty good. I thought the episode "White Bear" was great.

Graham Norton's rendition of Bohemien Rhapsody is pure genius.

So sad that Dermot Morgan died shortly after the show finished.

If you like Father Ted, then check out Black Books, which was co-created by Graham Linehan.

The show made me interested in other Linehan projects. I'll get around to them when I have the time.

The only Graham Linehan stuff I've seen is The IT Crowd. It's hilarious.
Tenet: Criterion Edition. Now with more Backwards Man.

It looks like most of History's other low-rent miniseries (and it's hilariously awful to make these 18th century figures seem like rock stars). Outside of Hatfields and McCoys (which felt more HBO-like with the high production values and antihero characters), these miniseries set cable back several years.

I didn't watch the Bonnie and Clyde one, but I loved Hatfields and McCoys and the Houdini one, though not as good, was alright.

Bonnie and Clyde wasn't worth it. Emile Hirsch was good but the rest was a mistake. Stick to the Warren Beatty version.
