I have a feeling that Saw 6 will be a sign that torture porn is dead. I'm not saying it will bomb, but I suspect it'll have the worst opening for a Saw movie in years, probably mid 20's. This will partly due to fatigue, and part due to the excitement over Paranormal Activity

I agree. I also think its 'quality' (or lack thereof - not that I know anything yet) won't be a factor. I think Saw has its set fan base, and the same people will see it. Mind you, i'm still going to watch it as well, it is released today in Australia. Hopefully they can end the story (eventhough they've announced more future Saws) so I can stop spending money on them, I just want to see how it ends.

And the ending will be...

a setup for Saw VII.

Face it, this series will never die.

Didn't they say that Saw VI will end this particular storyline?

What does "particular" mean? Hasn't it all be one related, interconnected story?

They're making another storyline is how I took it.

Actually in an interview with the director he said that this story line would continue through saw VIII and that they would be making saw VII in 3d. but after that he didnt know how far the series would go.

I wish we could pretend that it ended at Saw III.

I thought Saw 5 was well received by the fans. Either way i've only seen 1 and 3 and hated both of them, I actually almost barfed in the pig scene on the third film.

I shall pretend it ended with 3 also. It would have beena good time to stop.

I never watched past the first one. It ended pretty well and I didn't see any need to take it any further. I'll happily live the rest of my life with never watching any of the sequels.

Final Theater Counts per BOM:

Saw VI - 3,036
Astro Boy - 3,014 (current UR: 6.4/236)
Vampire's Assistant - 2,754
Amelia - 818
Motherhood - 48 (current UR: 6.9/117)
Ong Bak 2 - 10 (current UR: 6.4/3640)
Antichrist - 6 (current UR: 6.9/8679)

Expanding:

Couples Retreat - +65 to 3,074
Paranormal Activity - +1,185 to 1,945
A Serious Man - +94 to 176 (will this ever go above 500?)

No change for any of last week's debuts.

Estimates for next week:

Michael Jackson's This Is It: 3,400
Boondock Saints 2 - 65
Gentlemen Broncos - 2 (current UR: 6.2/80)
House of the Devil - 3 (current UR: 7.6/243)

Well, I think the PTA champ for next week will probaly be MJ:TII, with GB getting #2. Boondock Saints 2 may have just barely too many screens to get in the top 5.

Dammit. That's a ridiculous expansion for A Serious Man. Either take it wide or keep it limited. I may have to alter my PTA predictions for my column. And maybe Antichrist is opening small enough to make a significant impact too.
