I read that people were buying tickets to Clash Of The Titans and sneaking into Kick-Ass. At the showing that I went to, employees were cracking down on underage ticket buyers (I was even asked for my proof of age and that never happens to me) and only 20 or so people showed up (mostly adults). The exception was an Asian family who sat down right next to me and totally enjoyed the film's dark humor.

I'm going to see Kick Ass b/c of it's good word of mouth, but I must admit the trailers for it looked very cheesy...so I understand the average movie goers apprehension for seeing the movie.

On a related note, I'm glad I took it off of most of my slates.

The Back-Up Plan will more than double my prediction of $5 million.

It's still only got a 4.6 IMDb, though. In another ratings note, Kick-Ass is now a Top 250 film and one that may actually stay on there because it has an 8.4 right now and is ranked #123. I guess people like it. HTTYD and Shutter Island are the other two to make the list this year.

I totally feel the same way.

And, yes, to the rest of you, Buscemi is right, the 'moral guardians' were complaining about the violence and hit girls language quite a lot. Just another example of people forcing their short sighted beliefs on others. Maybe one day they will get a life.

And Busc, is Sky Captain good? Saw it was on your list there...

Box Office Mojo Friday Estimates:

1. Back Up Plan, $4.2
2. HTTYD, $3.4
3. Date Night, $3.3
4. Losers, $3.2
5. Kick-Ass, $2.9

Son... of... a... bitch.

I'd wager that Dragon will rebound and take the weekend, however.

Yeah. HTTYD will have a comfortable win. Saturday and Sunday matinees will help it catch up.

Sky Captain is very good if you're into 1930's cinema and retro science fiction (the film is inspired by the serial of the 1930's, kind of like Indiana Jones).

Depends on what you mean by 'good' ... It is a guilty pleasure of mine, but i wouldnt say that the story is very well written, or that the acting is very good. even the CG isn't that good.

I thought that the story and acting not being great was intentional and added to the feel that the director was replicating (the feel that you are watching a cheesy old timey B-movie or serial).

I beg to differ on the CGI. I think Sky Captain has some of the best use of CGI ever in a Hollywood movie and it deserved the Oscar for Visual Effects that year (instead Paramount didn't even promote it to the Academy, got totally snubbed, and Spider-Man 2, with its unoriginal and typical use of CGI cliches, won).
