God I hope that's true and it ends up playing somewhere around Boston.

Well, it's only going to run at independently-owned theatres so you can only hope (by the way, the Atlanta run has been confirmed to be at least one week with a possibility of a second if demand is high).

It makes one wonder why it was even taken off the schedule in the first place but I'm guessing this is just part of Pascal's eventual severance package.

Edit: the Drafthouse chain will also run the film as Sony as revealed the count to be less than 100 theatres. It will also run VOD on the same day, making it Sony's first simultaneous release.

There's hope that if the demand is high enough, it will expand, who knows...

It looks like some of the Drafthouse theatres will only run a few shows a day on it (the Kansas City Drafthouse is only running it as a late-night movie, for example). But the good news is that at least one of those shows (the Saturday night show) has sold out and I imagine there are already more sellouts across the nation (edit: Drafthouse has sold out half its shows).

Edit: more than 300 theatres are now booking it, either on Christmas Day or during a New Year's expansion (the local arthouse here is booking it on January 1st). Unusually, no theatres in New York City are scheduled to book it (due to that market being dominated by chains). If you are in New York and want to see it, take a train ride or cab to Long Island as a few arthouses will be running it.

Well at least if there's enough showings, the PTA will be fantastic. Won't help my FY BO draft, but...

Is a 9.5+ IMDb and handful of PTA worth $15? Now I'm starting to debate, especially if seeing nothing happened makes the bigger theaters change their mind. This one could have turned into the biggest arthouse film of the year PTA wise.
Tenet: Criterion Edition. Now with more Backwards Man.

It's probably not going to do Boyhood or The Imitation Game numbers opening weekend. I'd going to guess $20,000 PTA opening weekend (assuming on how theatres run it, as some will play it evenings only and others will play it all day) and everything else will depend on word-of-mouth.

Also, I get a feeling those 10 scores will be thrown out or amended once it opens.

You can now stream the movie on YouTube, Google Play and XBox. $14.99 will buy you an HD copy of the film while a rental will cost only $5.99. In addition, Sony is in talks to give pay cable rights to Netflix rather than Starz (who usually runs Sony titles but it's possible their deal only handles theatrical-only debuts).

The final outcome:

- The Interview grosses $6 million in theatres, poor word-of-mouth hurting the final total.
- The film is a smash on demand, making over $40 million to date (and more will come through the Netflix deal and Blu-ray/DVD sales).
- Despite being the widest released day-and-date title on record (581 theatres), NATO continues to denounce the standard, claiming the $30 million loss (far less the original $75 million loss Sony estimated) as their reason while obviously forgetting theatrical-only titles that lost far more.
- Amy Pascal announced her resignation today.
- North Korea did not bomb anyone.

Interestingly, the company that seemed most scared by the hysteria was DreamWorks Animation, as they chose to shelve Rogen's B.O.O. and rework the entire film instead of doing a few cosmetic changes as originally planned. There's a strong possibility we may never see the film, due to DreamWorks' slate cutting and increased emphasis on television.
