What is going on.....

:o :o

These date changes don't really make any sense, i wonder if Disney is suggesting some of these moves.

And just days after the announcement of Solstice, it's been revealed that STX might be in trouble due to issues with the Chinese financing (Huayi's deal ends after 2019 while Tang's broke after the Global Road bankruptcy). Could Solstice try to buy STX and merge the two?

Warner Bros. has picked up Barbie and is tailoring it as a vehicle for Margot Robbie. So expect the 21 Jump Street-type interpretation to be dropped but the empowerment themes Sony had in mind to remain.

I wonder if this also means Masters of the Universe will become a Warner Animation Group project.

New Sony dates:

The Possession of Hannah Grace (the film formerly known as Cadaver) 11/30/2018
Holmes & Watson 12/25/2018 (from 12/21/2018)
The Intruder 4/26/2019
BrightBurn (previously the Untitled James Gunn Project, so it looks like it was never actually dropped) 5/24/2019

Some new dates from A24, STX and Neon respectively:

And The Rosie Project has been pulled from Sony's 2019 schedule. I wouldn't be surprised to see this retooled as a small indie without all of the Americanization that was planned when it was going to be a Jennifer Lawrence vehicle.

Meanwhile, two new limited dates:
Head Full of Honey (Nick Nolte drama directed by Til Schweiger, fast-tracked by Warner Bros. to get Nolte an Oscar nom) 11/30/2018
Stan & Ollie 12/28/2018

The Disney/Fox merger is set to be official on New Year's Day. In the process, it looks like the merger has ended MGM's home video deal with Fox as Operation Finale's home video rights are with Universal (giving Universal yet another output deal should future MGM releases go through them). Who knows what's going to happen with Annapurna's agreement with Fox but that's likely the least of their worries at the moment.

Hard Powder is now titled Cold Pursuit. From one straight-to-DVD sounding title to another.

And Ad Astra has been pushed to 5/24/2019 (from 1/11/2019). I figured something was up when Fox decided not to open limited and make it eligible for Oscars like they did for Hidden Figures.

Other Fox dates:
The Kid Who Would Be King 1/25/2019 (from 3/1/2019)
Stuber 7/19/2019 (from 5/24/2019)
Death on the Nile 10/2/2020 (from 12/20/2019)

Saban has picked up King of Thieves, so it will most certainly not report box office.

And one new date:
Angry Birds 2 8/16/2019 (from 9/6/2019)

Annapurna's trouble worsens. An executive sent by the founder's father has been brought in to examine the financial situation there and as a result, no projects will be greenlighted until 2020 at the earliest.

It will be interesting to see if another company offers to buy the distribution side (MGM and Amazon seem like possibilities) and offers Megan Ellison a production deal. It also makes their scheduled films for next year (not the MGM titles though) a big question mark of whether they'll come out. I also won't be surprised to see one of their Oscar titles delayed (my best guess is Destroyer, as it's gotten the least buzz).
