A24 will release Claire Denis' High Life. It's in English so it fits their distribution strategy.

From what I've read it's a very strange arthouse sci-fi. Not expecting it to blow the box office away, despite some great reviews.

Of course, they'll either go wide with it or consider it so to appeal to the A24 faithful (whom I've bet a lot of them have never seen any of her films).

IFC has picked up the boxing drama Donnybrook. This will likely be a few theatres before on demand.

Meanwhile, Vertical has picked up Drunk Parents from Aviron and will go day-and-date. Can't say I'm surprised seeing how long it was on the shelf.

It looks like Red Sonja's back on, as Millennium Films has hired Bryan Singer to direct. I guess no one at Millennium Films was aware of some of the things about Singer that made him a pariah in Hollywood (though Fox reportedly let him handle post on Bohemian Rhapsody as Dexter Fletcher's doing Rocketman).

If this gets made with Singer, I believe it will have a hard time with distribution (though Millennium does work with Lionsgate a lot and Lionsgate released two James Franco films this year).

In other news, Neon will open Wild Rose on 5/10/2019 (Mother's Day weekend). Though currently listed as limited, it could end up wide as The Rosie Project will certainly not be ready by then (if it ever gets made).

A Star is Born will open limited on 10/3/2018 in 115 theatres before expanding wide on the 5th. The two-day advance opening will be exclusive to AMC theatres with Dolby Cinema.

Edit: it's actually a sneak preview on October 2nd. HSX's report made it seem like a full limited release.

Focus will open Downton Abbey on 9/20/2019. Should be big will those who are obsessed with Victorian era stories.

Edit: and the Universal shuffling begins. All You Need is Love (aka Untitled Danny Boyle/Richard Curtis Project) has moved up nearly three months to 6/28/2019 (from 9/13/2019).

James Bond 25 will now open on 2/14/2020. Cary Fukunaga has taken over directorial reigns (though I wouldn't be surprised to see his involvement end up like It and he leave over script issues).

And The Oath is set to expand wide on October 19th. I have a feeling this would have been day-and-date if Tiffany Haddish wasn't in it.

Related to Lionsgate, they have picked up Fast Color from LD Entertainment and will open limited on 3/29/2019.

I'm not sure which is more surprising, a Bond film directed by an American or a Bond film being released in February. Maybe they're getting audiences prepared for an Idris Elba Bond film released on MLK day in 2022.

The DCEU overload continues. Birds of Prey will open on 2/7/2020.

I have a feeling one of these will get pushed back at some point.

Edit: Sony's love for overlong titles continues. The Girl in the Spider's Web is now The Girl in the Spider's Web: A New Dragon Tattoo Story. You mean the trailer didn't make that clear?

There's currently a bidding war for the rights to remake Train to Busan. Why do we need a remake? The original seemed to be a pretty popular film.

Meanwhile, Happy Death Day 2U has officially been confirmed for Valentine's Day.

Gnome Alone will hit Netflix on October 19th. So that's yet another TBA you no longer have to worry about.

And one new date for a movie going to theatres:

Hellboy 4/12/2019 (from 1/11/2019)

Damn, I knew Second Act would move, but I thought it'd take the STX untitled date on 1/25/19. Moving into Christmas is risky but can pay off as a counterprogram to Spider-Man, and something for women throughout the holidays.

Surprised at the Hellboy move. I wonder if it needs more time or if Lionsgate thinks April is better for it. Would be dealing with Shazam and the RDJ Doolittle movie instead of presumably owning January.
