Back to the movies.

Focus has picked up Peter Farrelly's turn to drama, Green Book. I bet they'll place it in awards season in hopes of getting Mortensen that Oscar (and maybe get Ali in contention for another one).

And in what might be record time for re-editing a film, Show Dogs has been revised due to a pair of scenes being criticized for glorifying sexual harassment (the scenes in question depict the fondling of a dog's scrotum for humor purposes). The re-cut version will bow tomorrow.

From what I've heard, they did that scene in a way that seemingly mocks sexual abuse victims for comedic purposes. I doubt that's what they were going for, but that's the way it came out for a lot of people.

I've seen numerous posts on it on Facebook. Apparently a lot of moms of small children are up in arms about it. Not that this movie was going to break the bank anyway, but methinks it may be too late to un-ring the bell.

To make matters worse, the dog's balls were voiced by Kevin Spacey.

Looks like Dreamworks Animation has announced three more tentpoles but has not attached names to any of them.

12/21/21
4/15/22
4/7/23

I've been doing some speculating as to what these might be. We have Dragon 3 and Abominable in 2019, Trolls 2 and Croods 2 set for 2020, then two other 2021 films called Spooky Jack and Boss Baby 2. What could these be?

Possibly:

Madagascar 4
Shrek 5
Puss in Boots: Nine Lives & 40 Thieves
Kung Fu Panda 4
BOO Bureau of Otherworldly Operations

I know they said Larrikins was canceled, but maybe they'll bring that back.

Any theories?

I expect two will be originals. The Madagascar and Puss in Boots sequels are dead and B.O.O.'s never going to be released.

Meanwhile, in "should this be surprising" news, Sony is rumored to be shopping Slender Man due to a combination of limited commercial viability and online backlash over the film's themes. You want it, Netflix?

Meanwhile, Fox has scheduled the Keira Knightley/Jason Clarke historical drama The Aftermath for a 4/26/2019 limited date while Lionsgate will release the Renee Zellweger drama Judy (a biopic on the last months of Judy Garland's life).

New date:

A Madea Family Funeral 3/1/2019 (from TBA 2018)

Meanwhile, Hasbro has just announced they will be financing Power Rangers 2. Surprised it's actually happening.

Right into Chaos Walking’s release date. If the writing was on the wall before with all the reshoots, it’s a lock now that it’ll move. At this point, Liman would surprise me more if he actually made an intended release date.

New Dates:
Ya Vermos 8/31/18
Five Feet Apart 3/22/19
Greyhound 2/8/19 (from 4/5/19, which unofficially confirms the inevitable Silver and Black date pulling)
Overcomer 8/23/19 (latest from The Kendrick Brothers)

And just like we all thought, Silver & Black has been officially pulled from its date. According to Deadline, it's getting a Page 1 rewrite so we probably won't see it for awhile.

New Date:

Under the Silver Lake - 12/7/18 (from 6/22/18) (Probably for award consideration?)

Yeah this strikes me as a "recut the film and hope it gets a better reception" type of move from A24.

The Hustle has been pushed back nearly a whole year to 5/10/2019. I wonder if this is getting reshoots or MGM is finally admitting that 80's nostalgia is dead (there have also been rumors that Melt with You will never be released).
