Seems like reshoots. It was either very close to or just wrapped principal photography when the SAG strike started in July.

I'm honestly surprised Michael Gracey got another movie after all of the post-production issues with The Greatest Showman. If Better Man has fewer than six credited editors having to fix the movie, it will have already been an improvement on The Greatest Showman.

And since the Mutant Mayhem sequel finally got announced, it will be a matter of time before Universal announces a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Puzzling that Universal's been quiet on the rumored sequels and spinoffs.

Surprisingly, The Watchers moved off of June 7th before The Crow. It will now release on June 14th.

Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead opens on April 12th. And yes, it has Nicole Richie and Tyra Banks was one of the producers.

A24 must be dumping MaXXXine then, given how long it's been finished and how it's opening after Independence Day instead of the day before.

Even in a wide release, I couldn't see it making more than $5 million total.

Odd, given how well Pearl was received. Perhaps it has a fest ready to go, such as SXSW

That's an interesting point six. Deadline made a seemingly random reference to X debuting at SXSW in their release date announcement story, so perhaps it's primed to debut in one of the remaining secret screenings slots. Regardless, I'm not sure releasing it the day after the 4th of July instead of the day before is going to have much bearing on its BO prospects. X and Pearl only combined to make a little over $20 mil domestic and despite the increasingly sizable cult following they've picked up since their release, it's not likely to attract many people that aren't fans of the previous films and/or slasher superfans.

A theory that I have as to why A24 isn't giving MaXXXine a big push is due to the subject matter. A24 previously dropped Pleasure over fears it would get an NC-17 rating due to the porn elements and planned to release an edited version without the director's consent (Neon eventually released it unrated while A24's planned R-rated cut was shelved). MaXXXine is a horror film set in the world of hardcore pornography. In addition, it's supposed to have a VHS aesthetic, which would give the film a far dirtier and more disturbing feel than previous mainstream films about the industry.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if A24 removed its no NC-17 policy for this one. But then again, they were able to get the Midsommer director's cut re-rated R after that was initially NC-17.

On the eve of the start of this year's edition, 2023 SXSW debut Americana has finally found a WW distribution home at Lionsgate. No word on a release date yet and it may be a while before one surfaces considering the heavy volume of titles Lionsgate has in their release pipeline at the moment.

I saw this was originally titled National Anthem before it got renamed because of another movie with that title. On a related note, that movie, a rodeo drama with Charlie Plummer, has been scheduled by LD Entertainment for a July 12th limited bow.

As for Lionsgate's platform on Americana, I don't expect a big release. SXSW buzz tends to be fade pretty quickly unless it's something from a director with a cult following like Bottoms.
