Broad Green chose very niche films like The Neon Demon and Song to Song. The ones Amazon are buying (yes, I know they bought The Neon Demon too) seem much more mainstream.

Amazon produced The Neon Demon.

And some of the films Broad Green picked up were hyped pretty heavily. 99 Homes was supposed to compete for multiple Oscars, I Smile Back was set to get Sarah Silverman an Oscar nomination, Samba was hot off of the success of The Intouchables, Eden had a lot of festival buzz, and Learning to Drive finished second at Toronto in 2014. And they had that exclusive deal with Terrence Malick. The problem was that they had no idea how to promote or release these films. 99 Homes would have made a lot more money had they not sat on it a whole year.

As I mentioned before, venture capitalists are not film people.

Didn't Learning to Drive do okay business? And I do remember the hype over I Smile Back. It was strange how it's buzz came and went within weeks.

IFC has picked up Official Secrets, the political drama that hack Jeffrey Wells called better than The Report (which then made me wonder why he was allowed to attend Sundance when he had his press credentials revoked).

Netflix has picked up the Ted Bundy movie.

Edit: Paramount will open Without Remorse, a film that's been in development since the mid 90's, on 9/18/2020. With Taylor Sheridan doing rewrites, expect little dialogue and a random moment of graphic violence that lasts for 10 minutes.

We now know more about the Paramount/Netflix deal. The Loud House will now go there (it's interesting that they don't want to deal with John Lasseter but they're still going to make this one), along with an animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.

Also, United Artists is being revived again to handle MGM and Annapurna releases. How many labels does MGM have now?

Edit: new Sony Pictures Classics dates:

The White Crow 4/26/2019
All is True 5/10/2019

World War Z 2 is now dead. I guess Fincher's going to try to win an Oscar again.

I normally open like six threads at once when I'm clearing new notifications. I've done this more than a couple times.

Briarcliff finally announced a second movie. El Chicano, a crime film co-written by Joe Carnahan, will open on 5/3/2019. My best guess is that this will be a limited release concentrated heavily in Latino markets.

Unless it develops Upgrade-level buzz I can't see El Chicano grossing any more than Sleight or Desierto numbers.
