A Hidden Life will be released on the 13th of December.

It will probably be just as pretentious as Malick's other films but it should do well awards wise considering it was big at Cannes

And how many Terrence Malick films have you actually seen?

Only the pretentious ones probably. Every time I think about trying to watch The Thin Red Line and Days of Heaven (which I own), I think about Tree of Life and watch something else. Badlands (the only other Malick besides ToL I've seen) is a pretty good, though.
Tenet: Criterion Edition. Now with more Backwards Man.

I've only seen The Tree of Life, but that was enough to put me off watching any of his other films.

Days of Heaven's one of his more accessible films. It's not very long and the cinematography's excellent. The Thin Red Line was compared (unfairly) to Saving Private Ryan when it came out but it's been able to stand on its own in recent years.

Neither one is Knight of Cups, thankfully (I've still never seen Song to Song).

The Lodge will open on 11/15/2019. It wouldn't surprise me if a wide expansion was in the cards for Thanksgiving.

I don't think it would be very successful in Thanksgiving, considering most darker films released during the holidays don't make much.

Krampus did okay numbers the weekend after Thanksgiving. The Lodge (based on Goodnight Mommy) probably will not have wide appeal to begin with so I don't think it will make Neon much more no matter where it's released

We get that you didn't like Goodnight Mommy (and compared it to Eli Roth's movies, I don't recall any men's rights elements or xenophobic elements in Goodnight Mommy). But a lot of critics did and it was Austria's Best Foreign Language Film selection in 2015 (some even had it being nominated).

And have you seen the Thanksgiving titles this year? All dark movies. Also, Neon went wide with items like Assassination Nation and The Beach Bum. If A24 could go wide with similar titles like It Comes at Night and Midsommar, Neon can do the same with The Lodge.

Fox Searchlight is debuting A Hidden Life on 12/13. It's Malick, so what are the chances this goes wide? (Also: this was Michael Nyqvist's last film.)

On one hand, it's in German. On the other hand, it could be Disney's big Oscar film.

I'm thinking 500 theatres at most but I can see it making $8-10 million solely on it being Malick returning to form (The Tree of Life grossed $13 million in fewer than 250 theatres).

From what I had read during Cannes, "A Hidden LIfe" is both in German and English.

As for Malick's films, if what he's done after "The Tree of Life" has disappointed, the film he's made up to it are fabulous (Tree included). And The Thin Red Line is my favorite film, ever.

Nearly three years after it was filmed, Going Places finally gets a distributor. Screen Media will release it early next year with the new title The Jesus Rolls.

Meanwhile, Universal seems to have realized the disappointment of Skyscraper as they have pawned off Red Notice to Netflix. This goes against Netflix's recent plans of austerity (can you believe Triple Frontier cost $115 million to make?).

How the hell does a studio not believe in an action movie with The Rock, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot???

Sure can. Netflix tosses around money at an absolutely absurd clip.

On Red Notice, I'm with Banks-I can't fucking believe Universal dumped it. An action/heist project with those leads, their marketing department and a prime release date seems like a surefire hit.

The answer is Skyscraper. Same star and director and the film didn't work (in addition, Johnson and Thurber's contracts on this one added up to $60 million, which would have hurt Universal had this also flopped domestically). And Reynolds wasn't on the project when Universal had it.

As for Triple Frontier, I firmly believe the film could have been made for $30 million. Chandor's other films had small budgets and I'm sure you could have gotten an actor of Ben Affleck's scale for much less money.

In other news, Screen Gems is remaking Look Who's Talking. Who wants to bet Ali Wong plays the Kirstie Alley role?
