Well I'll be damned, I was actually right for once. Mid-90's will be released on October 19th.transformers2 wrote:Jonah Hill said in an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night that the trailer for his A24-produced directorial debut Mid-90's is coming out next Tuesday, so a release date announcement should be imminent.

The Coen Brothers have surprised us with a new movie. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, originally planned as a TV series, will get a limited release in December before going to Netflix.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. will now release Detective Pikachu as Legendary has ended its deal with Universal.

Ouch, sucks for the people who had it on their full year slate.
not that it would have saved them, but still, ouch.
as for outside of the game,
i wish we could see what these transactions are worth. Did WB think they had a bomb on their hands and they are glad they just got some money out of it. Or did netflix pay them what it cost to make, and Netflix is just hoping to have a quality film debut on their service for once.

Like Cloverfield Paradox it looks like a dump. Serkis's last film was a bomb, and this just looks like a bomb after the success of The Jungle Book. I'd say Netflix saw an opportunity and paid back the cost of the budget at most. That's never a good sign of quality (besides Annihilation, which was great)

Yeah. So far my slate's been performing well. I was half-expecting to get hit in the face by some bad luck at some point. Rats.

Completely agree. While they've taken a few painful finanical beatings in the last 18 months (King Arthur, Justice League, Blade Runner 2049), the money and leadership situation at Warner Brothers doesn't seem to be dire enough where they need to sell off products they believe in just to get out of the red. This move seems to indicate that they thought it was going to bomb and forunately for them, Netflix was kind enough to take it off their hands.numbersix wrote:Like Cloverfield Paradox it looks like a dump. Blade Runner was a negative pickup deal (Alcon financed the film while Sony got international rights) so that wasn't as much of a loss as the others. In addition, the film did well in post-theatrical markets so I'd imagine Warner Bros. doesn't mind that one disappointing at the box office.

Speaking of Mowgli, Netflix is planning for a new 3-D process that will allow you to watch Mowgli the way Andy Serkis wanted it to be seen from your device. I can't help but see this not work at all (3-D TV's are no longer made and outside of VR devices or expensive shutter glasses, most people will only be able to see 3-D through anaglyph glasses and that is not an optimal experience at all).

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
What I got from the announcement was that they'll play it in theaters in a limited capacity in 3D, not that they'd have it available on 3D on Netflix. I don't even think that's possible.

Netflix has money. They'll figure out something.
And something like five theatres would show Mowgli and unless the New Beverly gets a 35mm print, no one will pay $15 to see it a theatre.
