More than a year after being picked up at Sundance, Orion will open On the Count of Three on May 13th. I have to imagine this will be a quick dump before Prime.

If you really want to know what a long wait after Sundance is, Dinner in America is supposed to be getting a US release later this year from Giant Pictures, a library acquisitions label similar to FilmRise now breaking into buying newer titles, more than two years after its premiere. Not sure why it took this long, seeing how reviews were uniformly positive and there's nothing controversial about the subject matter. It's been out in Europe since last year, where they got a Blu-ray from Arrow Video that's supposed to be quite good.

Neon will be releasing a David Bowie documentary, Moonage Daydream, sometime this fall. An IMAX release is planned in addition to regular format theatres.

Sony has sold the worldwide rights (excluding China) to The Man from Toronto to their friends over at Netflix. Considering that it was dated in a very empty corridor of August, this is a pretty bad sign for its quality.

Seeing the poor reception of Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard and Sony's inability to have a hit not related to Marvel, should we be surprised?

A PG-13 action comedy that's led by Kevin Hart, Woody Harrelson and Kaley Cuoco that was set to release in a month where the other "big" wide releases currently on the calendar are a pair of original superhero movies and a movie where Idris Elba squares off against a lion is pretty surprising to me at least. Considering that it only carries a reported price tag of $75 million, it seems very unlikely that Sony would make that deal unless they were really unhappy with it.

In an example of cashing in on someone's fifteen minutes, Open Road returns to the well of music-themed movies with Machine Gun Kelly's Good Mourning, opening on May 20th. Could this perform even worse than Studio 666?

I figured Sony or HBO Max would have gotten the Gabby Giffords documentary, seeing how both teamed up on the directors' previous documentary. It would probably get more attention from either one rather than Open Road.

Did we really need a third Equalizer? The second one was one of the more forgettable sequels to a hit movie in the past decade.

And I'm surprised they decided to make Madame Web after how Morbius did. But then again, Kevin Feige did acknowledge the Sinister Six movies as MCU canon.
