I suspect it was Vikander who got Wheatley on board as they were working on a sci-fi action film that never got made.

It's interesting to note all of the Wheatley projects lately that have been announced but never happened (he also had a remake of Hard Boiled in the works that looks to be dead). And his last film still hasn't ever come out in the US.

It's like the buzz has fallen completely for him lately if he's going the for-hire route now. From Martin McDonagh to Duncan Jones, it feels like.

Yep, Free Fire really killed his chances of breaking out. He's also notorious for not taking notes and collaborating creatively (that's what I hear from execs who think they know better, at least).

His last film, which is essentially a TV drama, was actually excellent and it's a shame it didn't get a US release - probably because it was bought by BBC and broadcast over the Xmas hols which makes foreign distributors cagey.

So he's still an exciting director, and I'm looking forward to his remake of Rebecca for Netflix, but he's very much an auteur and does best (Kill List, A Field in England) when he's not trying to appeal to the masses.

The Gallows: Act 2 will open on 10/25/2019 and won't report box office. Who exactly was clamoring for a sequel to this?

Don't those BH Tilt movies report (who I'm assuming is releasing this, since they did release Unfriended 2, which could be a good Box Office comparison due to being sequels to moderately profitable movies no one really wanted to see).
It's not destroying. It's making something new.

It looks like the Valiant Cinematic Universe is over before the first movie even comes out. Paramount has picked up Harbinger out of turnaround, which suggests Sony has put all other Valiant projects in turnaround as well.

M. Night Shyamalan's next film will open on 2/26/2021. Currently, nothing is known about it.

Meanwhile in post-Toronto news, Sony has picked up The Burnt Orange Heresy, which got mixed reviews to go with its dreadful title.

HBO has picked up Bad Education. I wonder if they'll keep the title or if they'll rename it to avoid confusion with the Almodovar film.

I guess distributors were scared off from Hugh Jackman's last true-story drama. Didn't the one where he played a Presidential candidate from the 80s not even make $1M?

Just looked it up. The Front Runner barely made it past $2 mil, which was less than stuff like Papillion, Hearts Beat Loud and Juliet, Naked made.

El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie will play in theatres on 10/11/2019 and I found out that I'm in one of the markets getting the film. I might need some sort of recap on things that happened in the series.

Hopefully it does something to address the awful ending of the series, but I doubt it.

I really don't care what happens to Jessie and the others, either.
