Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
Was anyone asking for a new Melissa McCarthy/Ben Falcone teaming? Thunder Force hits Netflix April 9th, less than four months after HBO Max dusted off Superintelligence.
Meanwhile, I guess studios and theatre chains are shooting for a May relaunch as Peter Rabbit 2 has moved up to May 14th.
Also, the Snydercut is in black and white, because reasons.

Looks like that May wish was too optimistic. F9 has been pushed a month to 6/25/2021. Universal has also delayed Minions: The Rise of Gru another year to 7/1/2022 (I have to imagine that any interest in Minions will have died off by the time this is finally released).
Meanwhile, Sony has pulled Fatherhood from the release schedule. I have to imagine Hulu or another streaming service will buy this one.

A Quiet Place Part II and Infinite have more or less traded spots. A Quiet Place II will now open on 5/28/2021 (the first move-up after multiple delays) while Infinite will now bow on 9/24/2021.
I have to imagine we will hear something on Top Gun: Maverick, a film that's been completed as long as A Quiet Place Part II has, in the next few days.

Remember that Tupac conspiracy theory movie that had trailers running years ago and then it never came out? Saban picked it up and now City of Lies will come out on March 19th. I guess the industry has to release every Johnny Depp movie before he's officially persona non grata.
Also of note on City of Lies: Miramax has taken its name off of the US release. The only other movie I can recall them doing this was I, Tonya but a one-off label was used for that one.

Well I guess it was only a matter of time before somebody released it in the States
As for Fatherhood, the reason it got pulled is because Netflix bought the global rights (excluding China) to it yesterday. It's releasing Father's Day weekend.

Sony has slotted the Sam Raimi-produced The Unholy for 4/2/2021. With only three weeks before opening, I have to imagine this will be a quick dump followed by PVOD a few weeks later.

Has anyone else noticed that the Pedro Almodovar movie being released this weekend is only a half-hour? I have to wonder how this is being distributed.

Can't comment on how its being released, but I do recall hearing it was a short film ahead of its premiere at Venice.
In other news, MGM has officially dated Creed III-which will mark the directorial debut of Michael B. Jordan-for 11/23/22

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
Speaking of boxing movies, I was reading about Flint Strong, one of Universal's films that was shut down by COVID, and I am convinced that Universal is shelving this one and writing it off as a loss. The film has never restarted production since the original wave of shutdowns.
Also disappearing without a trace from Universal: Stillwater, though that film is finished. Seeing how it's an Amblin production (and therefore, Universal only gets domestic theatrical and home video/VOD while Amblin gets international and domestic pay cable), I have to imagine this will play theatrically. Not sure if it's still going to be planned as an awards title (festival, maybe, considering the director).

Not sure if this was a recent deal but Neon has picked up Ben Wheatley's newest. Early word was mixed so it seems not to be his comeback film.

I'm pretty sure In The Earth was acquired by Neon at Sundance.
It's not destroying. It's making something new.

It was agreed well before that festival. Think Neon were part of its original finance plan

You are correct, Neon was on board from the jump.
In other not overly breaking news, Wrath of Man was quietly re-dated for April 23rd late last week.

I'm guessing that's going to be a dump for MGM. Should have just made it with Sandra Bullock as originally planned.

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
New Universal dates:
Belfast (Kenneth Branagh never seems to stop working nowadays) 11/12/2021
The Bad Guys (animated heist comedy) 4/15/2022
Meanwhile, the Sony carousel continues. Venom: Let There Be Carnage will now open on 9/17/2021 while The Man from Toronto has lost its date (did Netflix buy this one too, Tranny?). And this is just speculation on my part, but I have to imagine Vivo's getting pushed to Christmas in the event Universal pushes Sing 2 to 2022.
