New dates:
Green Knight 5/29/2020 (A24 hopes to buck the trend of Arthurian movies flopping by going wide)
The French Dispatch 7/24/2020 (seems like Disney will be going for a Cannes debut)
A24 also has a placeholder at 7/31/2020. I'm wondering if it's recent pickup Kajillionaire.
Meanwhile, Hulu is nearing an $8 million deal for Bad Hair with an option to rent a distributor for theatrical rights. The film has gotten mixed reviews so it might end up being a one-night-only deal.

Disney will release a filmed performance of Hamilton on 10/15/2021. They paid $75 million just for the rights!
Lin-Manuel Miranda is killing it with the film rights to his work.

We got my daughter tickets for Christmas. It was pretty damned good. With the original cast it’s a very good investment. There will be a decent amount of people that will watch this numerous times.Buscemi2 wrote:Disney will release a filmed performance of Hamilton on 10/15/2021. I Still Believe isn't out yet but Lionsgate has already announced a follow-up from the directors that will be a biopic on Kurt Warner. There are hopes to have it ready for a 12/18/2020 bow.

Ummm... They’re releasing Impractical Jokers: The Movie on 2/21. It’s already scheduled in four theaters around Indianapolis. It may have enough theaters to be considered wide.

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
Who still watches that show? You'd think it would have ended after the Guido boom died down.
As for a wide release, I'd have to imagine it would be like the Nancy Drew movie last year and only be released through a few chains, followed by Warner Bros. not reporting its box office.

The Kurt Warner biopic is titled American Underdog. Lionsgate knows the audience for this thing.
And one new date:
What About Love 9/25/2020 (from 2/14/2020)
Edit: because theatres are desperate to fill their IMAX screens, I Still Believe is getting an IMAX run. I hope this doesn't give Pure Flix any ideas.
Second edit: Downhill will be opening wide right away. I guess the weak reception at Sundance led Disney not to attempt a repeat of Lucy in the Sky.

Just when it seemed like A24 got Kajillionaire, Focus has now jumped in to make a deal for the film. I also figure we'll hear about more post-Sundance deals in the next few days, as a number of high-profile titles left the festival without distribution.

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
Interesting. July's stuff is very niche so surprised there's a bidding fight for something so niche
Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
The cast has a bunch of names and it was one of the last Annapurna productions so it seems this one's more mainstream.

Surprise! The Hunt is coming out theatrically after all. Universal just dated it for March 13th.

I expect it to be dumped. Three other movies that weekend and the target audience's going to go for the religious movie.
Surprised Universal chose not to wait for the Peacock launch to release it. Of course, the film somehow cost twice what it cost to make Us.
Edit: I just saw the new poster. Is Universal actively trying to create controversy (again)? At least Warner Bros. didn't create marketing for Joker than baited crazy people.

Re: The Latest Date Changes 2: The New Batch
Controversy = tickets sold.
Or at least Universal is hoping. I think this is the best way to market it - otherwise it'd be just another Blumhouse movie that made a quick $25M and disappeared.
