And for those few theatres that will get The Irishman (I'm thinking I might be near one of them, as there's going to be a Scorsese retrospective at one of my local theatres in November): it might have an intermission. The run time has been rumored to be exactly three and a half hours.

It's a shame Netflix never report. I'd love to know how they fare in theatres.

It's a shame no Netflix film will ever be screened in a theater in France

When I saw Roma in the theatre, there was hardly anyone there. Of course, that was a Spanish-language film with no stars. The Irishman is a different beast.

I'd totally see The Irishman in a theatre, all 210 mins of it, despite knowing I could stream on Netflix a month later. I wish Netflix woudl embrace threatrical a bit more, but I get why they don't.

Same. Only problem for me is that the handful of theaters that show the Netflix titles in my area are at least 45 minutes away from where I live. I just can't justify making such a long commute when I know I can watch it in my living room a few weeks later.

This is the problem I have with Netflix films as well. I think that they should make some kind of theatrical agreement with at least one of the largest chains - it would reduce the risk of some of their original films.

New date:

The Report 11/15/2019 (from 9/27/2019)

Not sure if Amazon's still planning to put it on Prime two weeks later.

Warner Bros. will open the Bruce Springsteen documentary Western Stars on 10/25/2019, with sneak previews planned for October 19th and 23rd via Fathom Events. I saw a trailer tonight and I feel there's an outside chance it could break out.

I doubt it. If Blinded By The Light couldn't break out with a narrative and more mainstream appeal, I doubt it will do much.

Like I mentioned in my column, concert documentaries are successful, but I don't think this will even outgross Amazing Grace.

Ben Wheatley's directing the next Tomb Raider and MGM will open it on 3/19/2021. I guess he needed the money after Free Fire was such a flop.

Oh boy, that's a bad idea. Wheatley can't help but subvert. It'll be a post-modern blockbuster.

That whole United Artists alliance has been full of bad decisions.

I thought the reboot was fine and I'm interested to see Vikander get another crack at playing Lara Croft (especially with such an unconventional writer/director team), but the greenlighting of a sequel just further proves that United Artists has no fucking clue what they're doing.
