True Haunting has lost its date. No new date is known at the moment.

Meanwhile, Suzume will be opening on 4/14/2023 instead of the rumored Valentine's Day date. This will allow for Sony/Crunchyroll to do more marketing.

Sony has slightly shifted the release strategy for A Man Called Otto. It's now opening in NYC/LA on December 30th and will expand to other markets on January 6th ahead of its previously held wide release on January 13th.

Early word's not too positive (par for the course for remakes of popular foreign language films) so I'm not surprised by this move. It seems more like an audience pleaser than an awards film.

This year, Channing Tatum and George Clooney returned to the screen after long hiatuses from live-action films. Next year, Reese Witherspoon appears in her first live-action role in five years. Your Place or Mine hits Netflix on February 10th.

The first canceled DC project as a result of the regime change has been revealed to be Wonder Woman 3, mere months after the project was announced. Either the series is getting rebooted in a few years to erase any memory of Wonder Woman 1984 or Warner Bros. will be doing what they always end up doing with DC and just make Batman and Superman projects from now until Gunn and Safran leave. Or maybe they'll just give all the non-Batman/Superman projects to Amazon like they are with much of the streaming rights. They can't be any worse, right?

Infinity Pool opens on January 27th.

Meanwhile, Mike Flanagan has announced plans to reboot The Dark Tower, previously adapted by Sony with that near-in name only adaptation in 2017, for Amazon. Flanagan's idea is to make two films followed by a multi-year series. Not sure which stories will be adapted into features and which will be in the series.

Taylor Swift has inked a deal with Searchlight to produce her directorial debut-which she also wrote. Say hello to the highest grossing non-superhero film of 2024 or 2025

Taylor Swift's last two theatrical films bombed enormously at the box office. Just because her albums sell, it doesn't mean people will go see her in a movie.

I find it more likely the film ends up on Hulu, much like how Miss Americana was primarily exclusive to Netflix.

In other news, the Mean Girls musical is being adapted for Paramount+. This should make 2000's girls who peaked in high school happy.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody has had a last minute title-change, adding Whitney Houston's name at the front.
It's not destroying. It's making something new.

Damn, Sony is really going the Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey route? I'm just baffled how anyone who pays attention to pop/mainstream music even a little bit couldn't figure out that a movie called I Wanna Dance with Somebody was about Whitney Houston.

Sony was doing it way before Warner Bros. referenced Birdman with the Birds of Prey title. Remember that movie where Liam Neeson played Deep Throat?

In an interesting move, considering how they released a pair of titles from the animated series theatrically, Sony is not going to distribute Legendary's live-action adaptation of My Hero Academia. Netflix will be getting all rights except in Japan.
