The previous record was Pirates 2 which took 63 days. It took The Dark Knight over 200 days to make it, and Avatar has already gotten $1.05b.

Another record falls: Avatar takes in $25M on New Years' Day, beating Meet the Fockers which had $18M in 2005.

Sherlock Holmes takes in $14.9M for 3rd place all time on NYD, while Alvin 2 pulls in $12.6M for 5th all time.

dont forget that crushing 68.3 3rd weekend record destroying spiderman by over 23 million. I'm sure the 4 and 5 weekends are in danger as well.

And all 3D shows are selling out everyday at my theater. I thought we'd never see something as record-breaking as The Dark Knight for a loooong time, but it only took 18 months!

Fourth weekend record will be shattered. It's going to have to hold really well over MLK to get the 5th weekend record though. But if we've learned anything from its run so far, its that Avatar can hold strong when it needs to.

My first prediction for Avatar Worldwide BO was $1.2B. And my friends called me an incurable optimistic
James Cameron is the only director with 2 movies over $1B WW. And I think that Avatar will be surpassed only by Titanic ($1.8B)... wow! No. 1 & No. 2 WW will be Cameron's movies!

I wonder if he will ever have trouble bankrolling a movie again??? :)

"You want 800 mil to fund a movie about a man hunting a squirrel?!?! Sure."

Looks like Battle Angel and his Forbidden Planet remake will happen after all.

Battle Angel is certainly still on the cards, but considering Cameron is talking to Ubisoft, I wouldn't be surprised if it became a video game instead of a movie.

I don't see that happening, due to the disappointing reception of the Avatar video game (also from UbiSoft).

I'm really hoping that The Dive also happens. The plot sounds like The Big Blue but with a girl in the lead (also, I read somewhere that Michelle Rodriguez may play the lead).

I only say so because he is still talking to Ubisoft about adapting some film ideas into games instead, and Battle Angel seems like the best choice

Fox will probably get him to make Avatar 2 next, but then again, he's James Cameron. He makes whatever he wants.

What's with the references to Con Air, Austin Powers and The Hulk?

Ok, so that movie would have been 8,978,696,875,757,857,857,567,500,060,000,044,450,353,600,037,637,370,000 times better than Titanic, first of all. But they already made Titanic 2. It was called Revolutionary Road or When Things Get Off the Boat, and Start Getting Real.
