Avatar only beat Alvin by that much because Alvin opened on Wednesday. Had they kept the Friday date, it would have been only a $28,000 or so deficit.

Avatar made more money on Alvin's first two days (Dec. 23-24) than Alvin did and way more over the 5-day weekend.

Avatar's second monday was more than it's first monday.

Avatar had the third biggest Tuesday ever yesterday, behind Transformers' opening day and TDK's first Tuesday. And this was Avatar's second Tuesday!

EDIT: On Wednesday Avatar smashed the record for the biggest second week ever, and should easily end up breaking the record by over $20 million from TDK.
