Weekend Box Office Dec 11-13

Post by Shrykespeare »

BOM Sunday Estimates

Top 5

5 points - The Princess and the Frog, $25M
4 points - The Blind Side, $15.45M
3 points - Invictus, $9.1M
2 points - New Moon, $8M
1 point - Christmas Carol, $6.9M

I'm dumbfounded. I can't believe Invictus did that poorly. Just unbelievable. Meanwhile, Christmas Carol just keeps hanging around!

PTA

5 points - The Lovely Bones, $38,667
4 points - Up in the Air, $34,028
3 points - A Single Man, $24,000
2 points - Broken Embraces, $19,167
1 point - The Princess and the Frog, $7,280

Kudos to those who picked up Broken Embraces, which now has FOURTEEN PTA points.

What did I say before? Clint Eastwood's historical films usually flop.

you cant call it a flop yet, Mystic River opened with $10M and Million Dollar Baby opened with $12M and the both went on to earn $90M and $100M, respectively.

And it looks like Transylmania will set a new record, by dropping 94% in it's second weekend.

Really disappointed that Invictus opened so low, but I think with the Oscar nods, it'll find its audience. Not to mention the GG noms coming next week.

Meanwhile, the field looks wide open for Avatar to come and dominate next weekend.

It's not an true wide release record. Transylmania was only in 100 theatres in its second week, far below the 600 required theatres to qualify.

Yeah, I guess. But it should then get the record for most dropped in its second week. 1,800+ theaters to 100 is crazy.

Yeah, I think its the biggest drop from a wide release... Meaning it was the widest opening to drop or something like that...
Tenet: Criterion Edition. Now with more Backwards Man.

Actually, I think Delgo would hold that record. It went from 2,100 theatres in its first week to a few unreported matinee shows in a few theatres (I'd estimate well under 100 theatres) in its second week.
