Broad Green has officially closed up shop. Their remaining employees have been laid off and some 50 projects will be placed into turnaround. However, they will still distribute their remaining titles for the time being (though I think those will get sold off eventually, Villa Capri could lead to a bidding war among the other independents).

In other news, new distributor Swen Releasing will open Una on 10/6/2017 with plans for an 10/20/2017 expansion (most likely to top 10-20 markets).

Meanwhile, The Orchard will open Cannes Grand Prix winner BPM (Beats Per Minute) on 10/20/2017.

Lastly, A24 has pushed Woodshock back one week to 9/22/2017.

Edit: Universal has pushed Pacific Rim: Uprising to 3/23/2018. Against three other films (two gunning for similar demographics) and the limited opening of Wes Anderson's newest, Universal must expect very little out of it.

Paramount has finally decided on a date for Annihilation: February 23rd. So much for those Oscar plans the studio had.

And The Lion King won't be the only Disney movie returning to AMC's. Disney will give five more animated films one week runs between September and October.

Too bad I've seen them all in the theatre. I was kind of hoping for Snow White, Cinderella, and Sleeping Beauty.

Untouchable is now titled The Upside. It now sounds like some bad bro-themed comedy instead of the remake of The Intouchables.

Meanwhile, Paramount has pushed Amusement Park to 3/15/2019 (from 8/10/2018) and pulled their untitled Nickelodeon movie from 3/22/2019.

And Universal will open the Chris Pratt vehicle Cowboy Ninja Viking (of which I bet the whole pitch was "Split, but funny") on 6/28/2019.

In distribution news, Magnolia has picked up Fatih Akin's In the Fade for a release at the end of the year, in hopes of a Best Foreign Language Film Oscar nomination.

A24 has scheduled another film for the Oscar race. They will open The Ballad of Lefty Brown (a title I was convinced Neon had, as Drafthouse is planning a series of screenings with Bill Pullman in attendance) on 12/15/2017.

Meanwhile, RLJ/Image has picked up S. Craig Zahler's follow-up to Bone Tomahawk, Brawl in Cell Block 99, for 10/6/2017. Must not be very good if the director wasn't willing to wait until Toronto for a better deal.

And some Sony dates:
Sicario 2: Soldado 6/29/2018
Barbie 8/8/2018 (from 6/29/2018)
Holmes and Watson 11/9/2018 (from 8/10/2018)
Bad Boys 3 TBA 2018 (from 11/9/2018)
The Nightingale 1/25/2019 (from 8/17/2018)
Silver and Black (Spider-Man spinoff) 2/8/2019
The Rosie Project 5/10/2019 (expect a lot of Americanization in its road from best-selling novel to another Jennifer Lawrence vehicle)

Super Troopers 2 is rumored to be finally arriving on 4/20/2018. It's also expected to open in over 2,500 theatres.

Meanwhile, the Untitled Fox/Lightstorm Project is looking to be Guillermo del Toro's remake of Fantastic Voyage. Filming is set to start in January. Speaking of January, Paramount has signed on Glenn Close to star in a remake of Sunset Boulevard (using Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical adaptation as its basis) that will begin filming around the same time. Looks like Close wants that Oscar.

Other new dates:
Tulip Fever 9/1/2017 (from 8/25/2017, now set to be wide again)
I Can Only Imagine 3/16/2018
The Secret Life of Pets 2 6/5/2019 (from 7/3/2019)

New dates:

The Current War 11/24/2017 (from 12/22/2017)
The War with Grandpa 2/23/2018 (from 10/20/2017)
Mary Magdalene 3/30/2018 (from 11/24/2017, either Weinstein didn't like its awards chances or the film wasn't going to be ready in time)
Midnight Sun 3/30/2018 (from 1/26/2018, I'm beginning to become convinced these Bella Thorne movies are simply tax shelter pieces that are not supposed to be released)

Looks like Fantastic Voyage (what seems to be the Untitled Fox/Lightstorm Project) will be pushed to 2020, as Guillermo del Toro will be busy with The Shape of Water's Oscar campaign (in other news, it looks like Fox expects this to be the real deal). Combined with development on the Alien Nation remake seemingly stalling (something tells me Fox likely found Nichols' ideas too political in an industry that's become more and more conservative), I don't think we'll be seeing a sci-fi film from Fox next Christmas.

And two new dates:
The Star 11/17/2017 (from 11/10/2017, I'm now expecting Wonder to move to Christmas or become a limited opener before expanding wide)
Maze Runner: The Death Cure 1/26/2018 (from 2/9/2018)

Lastly, The Papers has reverted back to being named The Post. Looks like any issues with the rights holders of the Washington Post name have been settled.

New dates:

Professor Marston and the Wonder Women 10/13/2017 (from 10/27/2017)
Traffik (thriller with Paula Patton and Omar Epps) 4/27/2018
Hellfest 10/12/2018

And Netflix will premiere their next attempt at Oscar glory, Mudbound, on November 17th. And any chance at nominations has been lost.

All I See is You will now open on 10/27/2017 after it lost its date a week and a half ago. I'm guessing it's going to be a limited release as Open Road will not have a trailer with Home Again (instead, Marshall and Duck Duck Goose will be the trailers included).

Meanwhile, BH Tilt is not out of distribution yet as Blumhouse has reached a new deal with Neon to release future films. This still keeps home video releases at Universal as Neon already has a deal there (speaking of Neon, they recently picked up Borg/McEnroe for US distribution).

Byron Allen's had a busy few days. He's just greenlighted a sequel to 47 Meters Down titled 48 Meters Down (this time, the sharks are in Brazil), been in talks to pick up the Keanu Reeves thriller Replicas, and made a $10 million deal to buy Chappaquiddick (if this goes through, it might top Netflix's near $10 million deal for The Babysitter as the biggest waste of money on picking up a film this year). If all these happen, we can expect a busy 2018 at Entertainment Studios. (Edit: the Chappaquiddick deal is official.)

Meanwhile, Apple will team up with Netflix to release Newness by making it available on iTunes a month before its Netflix premiere. Could Netflix be opening up to additional revenues or just testing the idea on titles with little hope of success?

Edit: YouTube Red will release Super Size Me 2 sometime next year. Looks like the failure of An Inconvenient Sequel, among other documentaries, has scared off major distributors from distributing documentaries again (though Neon seems to think that Anthony Bourdain documentary will do well).

Villa Capri has been pushed back two weeks to 12/8/2017. Who wants to bet this won't be the last delay on this one?

How sure are we that All I See is You has moved to October? I know BOM is slow on the draw, but they still have it as debuting this Friday.

Open Road announced that it would be opening on October 27th in 250 theatres a few days back. Box Office Mojo simply procrastinates on updating some distributors (they still haven't listed Midnight Sun moving to March).
