New release dates:

Hardcore Henry (aka Hardcore) 4/8/2016
Tale of Tales 4/22/2016
Meet the Blacks (spoof of The Purge) 4/29/2016
Elvis and Nixon TBA April 2016
High-Rise 5/13/2016
Me Before You 6/3/2016 (from 3/4/2016)
Nine Lives 8/5/2016 (from 4/29/2016) (new Relativity co-owner Kevin Spacey must want to bury this Luc Besson production he's in)
Max Steel 8/26/2016
The Shack 11/18/2016 (from 8/12/2016)
Viral TBA 2016 (from 2/19/2016) (supposedly, Weinstein has pulled out as distributor due to financial issues and IM Global is now shopping the film)

Meanwhile, Valencia has apparently been renamed again and in the process, might have been revealed to be a Cloverfield sequel (does anyone remember the first?) titled 10 Cloverfield Lane. It will still open on 3/11/2016.

In the files of life imitates art, Tyler Perry has announced his next film is Boo! A Madea Halloween, which began as a joke in Chris Rock's film Top Five. The film will be released on 10/21/2016.

Other new dates:
The Bounce Back 3/18/2016
Amityville: The Awakening 4/1/2016 (from 4/15/2016)
Louder Than Bombs 4/8/2016
A Dog's Purpose (Universal and Spielberg team up on a reincarnation story) 1/27/2017
Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur 3/24/2017 (from 2/17/2017)
Baywatch 5/19/2017
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales 5/26/2017 (from 7/7/2017)
The Mummy 6/9/2017 (from 3/24/2017)
Spider-Man 7/7/2017 (from 7/28/2017)
Jumanji 7/28/2017 (from 12/25/2016)
Star Wars Episode VIII 12/15/2017 (from 5/26/2017)
Terminator: Genisys 2 TBA 2017 (from 5/19/2017, this sequel is possibly dead now)
Terminator: Genisys 3 TBA 2018 (from 6/29/2018, ditto)

Meanwhile, I've found out The Darkness (opening 5/13/2016) is actually the film formerly titled 6 Miranda Drive, starring Kevin Bacon and directed by Greg McLean (who also has The Belko Experiment awaiting release). Universal previously had the project (ironically, it's still being released by Universal but Blumhouse will pay for P&A).

And because one movie just has to go through all of Hollywood's addresses, Paramount is now releasing Ghost in the Shell. That's three distributors now and it makes me wonder if Warner Bros., Sony, Fox, or any of the independents will be waiting in the event Paramount drops it.

And some new dates:
The Other Side of the Door 3/4/2016 (from 3/11/2016)
Remember 3/11/2016 (from 2/12/2016)
The Perfect Match 3/11/2016
The Clan 3/18/2016 limited, 3/25/2016 and 3/30/2016 expansion (from 1/29/2016)
The Program 3/18/2016
Get a Job 3/25/2016 (four years after completion, Lionsgate will release this as a Premiere title)
Mr. Right 4/8/2016
Rio, I Love You (long-delayed follow-up to Paris, je t'aime and New York, I Love You) 4/15/2016
A Hologram for the King 4/22/2016 (looks like Lionsgate is more or less dumping the Tom Hanks/Tom Tykwer reunion)
Viva 4/29/2016 (from 2/5/2016)
A Bigger Splash 5/4/2016 (from 5/13/2016) (going from a wide release to a limited release)
Dheepan 5/13/2016
Love & Friendship (Whit Stillman does Jane Austen) 5/13/2016
Captain Fantastic 7/8/2016
Coco (Lionsgate) TBA 2016 (from 3/11/2016, there are probably a number of legitimate reasons why this was pushed but I don't know the real reason*)
Fast 9 4/19/2019
Fast 10 4/2/2021

* - my three best guesses: Disney/Pixar owning the title for their Coco, the Martin Shkreli case (RZA might have used some of the likely embezzled proceeds from the Wu-Tang album sale to finance the film or been in contact on other financing before the sale), and the star's homophobic comments on Twitter a few months back

Since the last post was looking kind of fat, here's a new post of release dates:

Collateral Beauty 12/16/2016
The Bounce Back TBA 2016 (from 3/18/2016)
Chicken Soup for the Soul TBA 2017 (from 12/16/2016)

Meanwhile, The Purge 3 is officially titled The Purge: Election Year. Kind of in poor taste to associate a series of violent movies with the Presidential election, don't you think?

It's funny to see a Tom Hanks film getting dumped in the middle of April.

What can they do that's worse than what's going on already?

Exactly. Personally, I think it's a stroke of marketing genius.

I just don't think they should be using a series of violent horror films to influence political opinions onto audiences. Especially since there are people who actually think The Purge should happen in real life (and Universal's only done things to encourage it through role-playing contests and marketing). We already saw the criticism over The Forest (another Universal release) for exploiting suicides in Japan to tell a ghost story so why try to create another case of bad taste in an excuse to appeal to the ignorant?

Because it doesn't hurt their bottom line and if someone is going to do something stupid or crazy they'll do it no matter what. Most of the people that have tried to assassinate presidents are nut jobs (they were successful twice even if you don't count Oswald or Booth as nut jobs). People do stupid stuff with or without visual/audio inspiration. Books have inspired more mass killings than any other media. I'm not for banning them, books, games, music, etc.

And I haven't heard of anyone saying that about The Forest. I looked it up and there's at least 20 forms of culture about Aokigahara. Most of it is Japanese. Are all of these "exploiting" suicides? Also at this point it's pretty much a legend. And demons are supposed to haunt it. I'm fairly certain the guy responsible for The Forest heard about it, said "That sounds creepy," and made a film about it. And I'm pretty sure you're just saying that because the movie was bad. If Room was bad I'm sure you'd say it exploited kidnapping and rape.

To back Busc, there was indeed some small criticism for whitewashing in The Forest and exploiting Japanese culture.

But for The Purge to use the election is a stroke of genius. It's in bad taste, sure, but the films are already in bad taste so it fits.

New dates:

The Invitation 4/8/2016 (from 3/25/2016)
Green Room 4/15/2016 limited (from 4/1/2016 limited, 4/15/2016 wide)
Colonia 4/15/2016 (looking like a dump despite the cast due to negative reviews)
The Light Between Oceans (the last title in the DreamWorks/Disney deal) 9/2/2016
Incarnate 9/30/2016 (three years after completion)
Delirium TBA 2016 (from 9/30/2016)
Transformers 5 6/23/2017
Untitled Warner Bros. Event Film 3/2/2018
The Flash 3/16/2018 (from 3/23/2018)
Ready Player One 3/30/2018 (from 12/15/2017)
Untitled New Line Event Film (possibly Rampage) 4/20/2018
Transformers 6 6/8/2018
Transformers 7 6/28/2019

And some distributor news:
- Netflix will self-distribute Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2 instead of Weinstein, who gave up domestic rights. It will still open on the 26th in 12 IMAX locations (most of the chains refused the film).
- Paramount is nearing plans to distribute the George Clooney-directed, Coen Brothers-penned Suburicon. TriStar had the rights but put it into turnaround last month.
- Lionsgate and Miramax are nearing a deal to distribute Southside with You. With the Presidential themes and Sundance pedigree, I wouldn't be surprised to see it go wide right away (or be like Mr. Holmes and open semi-wide before a wide expansion one week later).
- Focus has paid $9 million for Jeff Nichols' Loving. I think we may have the favorite for next year's Oscars.
- A24 has picked up The Lobster from Alchemy, taking it off of its March 11th release date. The home video date in June may be delayed also.

New release date:

God Particle 2/24/2017

Bad Robot's attempt at another Cloverfield.

Meanwhile, it looks like Weinstein is finally releasing Clown (Jon Watts' debut feature, pre-Cop Car and Feigeified Spider-Man) more than two years after its completion (and release in seemingly every other major country) as a trailer will be included with The Witch. No date yet but I imagine it will be a quick second-run dump before Netflix.

Rings was obviously never gonna make its date, but surprised at Desierto. Maybe they're holding it for later in the election cycle when immigration comes back up.

And I'm starting to think Rings doesn't even exist.
