The Toxic Avenger will definitely end up somewhere eventually and hopefully before too long, as I'm particularly eager to see it.

Giving how long things have been quiet on a completed film, it makes you wonder if there's some Kung Fury 2/The People's Joker situation with it. Lloyd Kaufman was one of the producers and he has a history of screwing people.

Anything's possible. The acquisition market is wonky as hell in the current marketplace and a remake of a grindhouse splatter classic doesn't seem like something that would appeal to most distributors.

I don't know. I'd expect distributors to be lining up for something like The Toxic Avenger. The audience is built-in, post-theatrical possibilities are solid, and seeing how the Internet pretty much controls the industry now, this is the kind of thing that would get the terminally online talking when they aren't talking about their dystopian fantasies. And the reviews were decent.

It's a far easier sell than Megalopolis, that's for sure.

The Fire Inside is never coming out, it seems like. It might make more sense to dump it onto Prime at this point.

It looks like The Apprentice's road to American screens will take a while. Along with the mixed reception at Cannes (61 on Metacritic) that led to no studio picking it up in the US, there is some threatened legal action over the film that could end up taking months to settle (though I'm sure the First Amendment will end up favoring the filmmakers). But either way, we will probably not be seeing this one opening this year.

Mike Flanagan has officially been hired to make the next Exorcist movie for Universal/Blumhouse. As expected, the plans to continue the Believer trilogy have been scrapped. No word on a release date yet.

The next three A24 x IMAX titles have been confirmed to be Midsommar (June 20th), Oasis: Supersonic (July 16th), and Everything Everywhere All at Once (August 28th). The last was previously released on IMAX two years ago.

And seemingly in an attempt to trick people into thinking it's a sequel to Sound of Freedom, Angel Studios has retitled Possum Trot to Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot. If this works, watch them title every future movie from them to begin with Sound of.

They really missed out by not titling their latest film The Sound of Sight.

I'm honestly amazed the writers of A Quiet Place got to direct again after the disaster that was 65. Meanwhile, a director like Lulu Wang hasn't gotten to direct since The Farewell a full five years ago.

Further proof that angry white men on the Internet dictate everything that goes on in the film industry today.
