It would make more sense to open limited and then expand. But then again, this is A24 and they never get criticized for their moves, no matter how bizarre they are.

Bleecker Street is releasing a filmed performance of Waitress: The Musical on December 7th for five days via Fathom Events. Surprised Disney passed on this, as it would seem like a good fit for Disney+ or Hulu.

I thought we were rid of Pure Flix as a production label after Sony bought the name and streaming service. Of course Angel Studios had to bring them back. Ironic how Angel Studios also has a streaming service.

Meanwhile, I'm surprised Lionsgate delayed The Marsh King's Daughter. This seems like one of their many semi-wide to low wide dump titles.

In other news, a new film directed by Nanatchka Khan, Totally Killer, hits Prime on October 6th. This one went completely under-the-radar and as a result, must not be very good.

A few updates on streaming titles:

- The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar hits Netflix on September 27th, with an Oscar qualifying run a week earlier. The film only runs 39 minutes so it will definitely be exclusive to the Best Animated Short Film category.

- The Caine Mutiny Court Martial arrives on Paramount+ on October 6th, as the first release of the newly-revived Republic Pictures. It will hit Showtime two days later. Probably shouldn't have ended my Paramount+ subscription but it was extremely buggy for me.

- Candy Cane Lane will arrive on Prime on December 1st, somehow getting a release before Red One. This was the first Amazon project shot on their new sound stages.

And Dark Harvest is being dumped onto VOD on October 13th after a sneak preview in select markets two days earlier.

Not sure if there were already plans for this but I saw one of my local theatres is selling tickets for The Eras Tour on Halloween, which falls on a Tuesday. This tells me this will be shown on Mondays through Wednesdays in addition to the already-announced Thursdays to Sundays, seeing how you'd make more money with an auditorium showing something than a dark one.

So why not just run it all week? The demand is there and the distributor didn't do this with RRR last year. Disney didn't pull this with that Hannah Montana concert film all those years ago so why would any legitimate distributor believe running only four days a week is a good idea?

I had to look up the actual tour dates and the concerts have only been on weekends, which might explain the four days a week arrangement. This is a filmed performance. There's no reason not to show the film on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Theatre chains would want those shows. Audiences who can't make those dates or want to go on a cheap day would want those shows. Maybe even the distributor, noticing how well the advance sales have been, wants those shows to increase the box office take.

The Eras Tour has grossed $2.2 billion so far. What's wrong with a few extra million?

The 90's sequel you probably weren't expecting, Good Burger 2, hits Paramount+ on November 22nd. Interestingly enough, this isn't the first Good Burger 2. There was a young adult book in the late 90's that also served as a sequel to the movie.

Ordinary Angels will now open on 2/23/2024. I guess Lionsgate's expecting another Jesus Revolution with this one.

Figured they would actually try to do an ad campaign for this one. I've seen absolutely nothing for it thus far.
