Netflix has picked up Eli, of which there had been speculation that they would after they announced a new pact with Paramount. So don't expect this one in your local multiplex on January 4th.

Lionsgate has picked up Knives Out (Rian Johnson's ensemble thriller which basically sounds like Free Fire but with an actual plot) and will open on 11/27/2019.

Meanwhile, Universal and Sam Mendes hop on the World War I bandwagon and set 1917 for a Christmas Day limited release before expanding wide on 1/10/2020.

Lastly, Chaos Walking has officially been pulled from 3/1/2019 as reshoots will not begin until February. No new date has been set.

Edit: Uglydolls has moved up to the empty 5/3/2019 spot.

Are You Afraid of the Dark? hasn't even begun filming but Lionsgate has already scheduled a rival project, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, for an 8/9/2019 date. Guillermo del Toro apparently co-wrote this one.

Annapurna has randomly scheduled Olivia Wilde's Booksmart for a 5/24/2019 wide date. Quick dump or sure to be delayed?

Screen Media has picked up The Man Who Killed Don Quixote and will release it through Fathom Events in March. You torture me, Fathom.

I haven't gotten an exact date yet but Fathom should announce it and begin pre-sales soon.

The Visible Filth is now titled Wounds and will premiere at Sundance. Could Annapurna be pawning this one off to another distributor?

And two new dates:
Teen Spirit 4/5/2019
The Intruder 5/3/2019 (from 4/26/2019)

Just as I figured, Breakthrough has been pushed back. It will now open the Wednesday before Easter (4/17/2019).

Fox has also scheduled The Art of Racing in the Rain for 9/27/2019. Between A Dog's Way Home, A Dog's Journey, The Secret Life of Pets 2, and this, 2019 is shaping up to be the Year of the Dog (though this year actually was the Year of the Dog, according to the Chinese Zodiac).

Lastly, the space drama Pale Blue Dot is now titled Lucy in the Sky. Fox has not given this one a date but there's a strong possibility this could be slotted into the 5/24/2019 spot that Ad Astra might vacate as a trailer has been submitted to the MPAA (I expect we'll see it premiere in a couple weeks with some of the Oscar bait expansions yet to come).

Sony's love affair with long titles continues. You Are My Friend, the Fred Rogers biopic, is now titled A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.

Animal Crackers has been dropped by Entertainment Studios and will get a quick dump (I'm assuming it's being self-distributed by the egomaniacal co-director as the listed distributor on Metacritic is defunct) on Friday. Next time, don't badmouth your distributor and say things that could get you sued.
