Pretty cool having the 2-3-4 spots on the weekend charts last weekend and then 3-4-5 this weekend.

I'd honestly penciled Dune 2 in for about $400M domestic, but $275M or so is nothing to sneeze at.

A little let down by Immaculate, I saw ads everywhere for it and thought it'd be a breakout horror hit.

I'm looking at 5th place this season, which isn't bad for a few years off

I saw almost nothing for Immaculate, which is bizarre as the theatre I usually go to promotes everything from Neon and the manager will push anything featuring a Euphoria actor (Anyone but You was still playing when Immaculate opened for some reason). I also saw almost nothing for Godzilla x Kong.

On the other hand, I saw a lot of things for Love Lies Bleeding and that one will more than likely not even clear $10 million worldwide. A similar case with Problemista.

Tranny’s killing the competition, with more than half a billion advance on Spectre’s 2nd place. I’ll check when’s the last time there was such a gap between 1st and 2nd place, if there ever was. Shryke and Banks are the ones moving the fastest behind him, and are closing in on Walleye, but he’s still got Abigail coming up. Down the bottom, Six is now less than $15M behind me, but I’ll finally get back in biz next weekend.
On another note, the upcoming calendar welcomes the last weekend of the season, 4/26, which means, gentlemen, that we’re entering the last month of the competition.

I'm probably bowing out. It feels like the industry is solely influenced by filmbros and people on the Internet and you can't really tell any movie from the other now. You'd think Barbie would have changed things but instead of listening to the millions that embraced the themes of Barbie and helped Warner Bros. temporarily save themselves, Hollywood listened to Ben Shapiro instead and are just doing the same things they've been doing since COVID (Another dystopian movie? More two-hour episodes of Euphoria and Succession? Adam Driver is the lead in a big budget movie again?).

In short, I don't really know what's going to be a hit and what won't.

I'm definitely much less informed in Hollywood movies and what's going on than I was before, but I'll always be up for this game nonetheless.

That's a shame. You did well considering you had to take over from dear Shryke mid-way through the draft. Perhaps you know more than you think you know.

I don't. I just don't get audiences anymore. We know a lot of modern product is crap and we don't get why critics tell us everything is good but we keep accepting it. Despite what we are told, we don't want change. We are too scared to be the solution of problems and are more interested in complaining because it allows to do something without actually doing anything of importance. You go onto YouTube and all you see is Andrew Tate and Steven Crowder wannabes. You block those videos but they still show up because that's what's popular. Nothing but rage bait and backwards thinking. And who pays attention to this? The people controlling the studios. As a result, we end up getting movies and television that appeal primarily to a vocal minority because no one wants to fight back and make something that actually says something. We value clout and validation over trying to improve things.

Getting away from how we get dystopian movies because people actually want a dystopia where the Bible is the Constitution and there's a cop on every street corner that kills people for disagreeing with them, I don't even know what the big movie will be this summer. I see sequels, adaptations, retreads, a few Channing Tatum movies, and that's it. Nothing has changed. There's been a lack of variety in recent years but it might be the worst it's ever been. And we keep encouraging it because we don't even care.

Maybe we should let the American film industry die off and entertain ourselves in our own way. Things wouldn't be any worse.

Regardless of how you feel about the state of industry, you're a plenty good player. You're a fixture on the podium in both BO and ULT leagues and that's not by accident.
