During this period you can stake your claim for a film on the list, but it is NOT first come, first serve. The highest person on the waiver wire (1 being the highest) that stakes a claim during the 48 hour window gets the film. This in turn, moves them to the bottom of the wire. The first waiver wire is in the reverse order of the first round of the draft.

Anything that passes the 48 hour waiver period is free to be chosen without losing your waiver position

You cannot add or drop any film with a release date within 2 weeks (14 days) of the current date. This rule is only in effect until 1/1/2024.

It's strange how there's been practically no marketing whatsoever for Theater Camp, considering it's two months away from release. I doubt it makes much in any circumstance, but it makes me wonder if it could be a Hulu release.
It's not destroying. It's making something new.

-Dirty Dancing and El Muerto were deliberate omissions as they haven't even started casting yet. I will however add them to the list since they are still on the schedule.

-Strangers is going to streaming in the US.

-Ferrari is still caught up in the whole STX bankruptcy situation and is looking for a new distributor.

-May December and Megapolis don't have distribution yet (and in the case of the latter, is it even going to be ready by next spring?)

-The Gorge and The Instigators don't have confirmed theatrical releases at the moment.

-Will add Nosfertau right away. No clue how I forgot that one.

Agreed. I figured it would get a trailer this week with Book Club coming out, so I was a bit shocked when they opted to roll out the Poor Things teaser instead.

How Do You Live? opens in Japan in July and should be ready to open in the US by the end of the year for awards qualifying. It could be GKIDS' biggest release ever once it arrives.

I have to imagine the long-completed Reagan gets released this year, as Jesus Revolution seems to have opened up the Evangelical cinema lottery yet again.

Meanwhile, I think I read The Strangers 3 will be a day-and-date title and likely won't report box office. Not much interest in this one, given how Prey at Night didn't do that well.

Chien thinks we should open the wire given that we've been waiting almost a week (and I agree). Anyone object to starting the 48 hour clock?

Yeah, we might as well get it going. The only caveat would be that if Ron surfaced during the 48-hour window and drafted a film that somebody would claim it, he would get it.

Alright so my plan is that I'll give one Ron one final stretch to get his pick in and officially kick off the wire sometime between 10 AM and 1 PM EST tomorrow when I log back onto my laptop.

Also over the past few days, I've added a dozen or so titles that just got dated or were picked up for theatrical distribution as well as a couple of 20th Century titles that are currently in post-production (No One Will Save You, The First Omen) that have yet to a commit to a release plan and removed a title that just got dated out of the season (Horrorscope).

I bet it's going to be released after the season as it only started filming in March but I'll drop Harold and the Purple Crayon for Nosferatu. It can't do any worse than the last vampire movie with Nicholas Hoult that was released by Universal.

Smile was definitely a steal on the WW. But Jesus Revolution numbers, I would have never bet it would go this high.

I think the thing with Jesus Revolution was that a lot of the people in the actual guy's congregation went to see it and since that church is in Southern California rather than some podunk, middle of nowhere town in Mississippi, it led to a lot of more interest than your typical Evangelical movie. It also helped for the movie that Lionsgate slashed the ad campaigns of other movies to increase its awareness.

I'm honestly still shocked Smile performed the way it did. A horror film hasn't put up holds like that since Get Out and being able to get a $100 mil+ earner to replace the two mid-round picks (The Last Voyage of the Demeter, Secret Headquarters) I lost in the early stages of last season was a huge part of why I was able to pull out the win.

As for Jesus Revolution, Christian films are some of the biggest crapshoots out there and clearly it ended up being one of the ones that popped for whatever reason.
