I'm always in for a draft game. Indeed an Oscar bonus on a Jan/dec league seems inappropriate given the calendar of the Oscars.

Think Banks volunteered. If we can finalise how many of us are playing and determine a draft order we should probably think about beginning the draft soon, as it usually takes a good 10-14 days to complete. Also need to confirm how many rounds we go with too.

How about instead of an Oscar bonus we do "Best Pick of the Round" bonus where you get bonus points for having the best pick of each round? Maybe we take round 1 and 2 out of it, since those are mostly easy to pick. So say round 3 through (whatever the last round is) gets a bonus $25M or something??

Just a thought.

Ok so it looks like we have 12 draftees, which is great. I'm willing to run the numbers for this, if no one else is. Can we start the draft this week, maybe Thursday/Friday?

Aqua
UDM
Six
Walleye
Shryke
Tranny
Spectre
Brockster
Banks
Leestu
Surfer
Chien

I will do a randomizer for draft picks shortly. I don't know how an Oscar bonus would work, unless you guys mean the 2021 Oscars? All of the Oscar picks for this upcoming awards season are 2019 movies.

I would be ok with a $25M bonus for all Best Picture nods, $50M bonus for the Best Picture win. Only thing is if the season ends Dec 2020, we'd have to wait until Feb 2021 to figure out those bonuses?

I'm OK with 14 or 15 rounds just like we do in the usual FY draft.

I say 14 rounds. We are going to shorten the next May-April leagues to 14 because of the sheer number of films that are going direct to video or Netflix or whatever. It seems like fewer and fewer people are less interested in the theater experience, and as a result, fewer movies movies are being released to theaters. (Well, maybe not fewer movies, but fewer successful ones.)

And fewer movies report box office nowadays. Netflix and Amazon are releasing big movies all the time (Michael Bay's newest movie dropped on Friday but it didn't get the push his movies usually do). But their theatrical runs are often limited and the totals are almost never released (Amazon is still doing traditional runs for some films but for how long?).

Only thing is if the season ends Dec 2020, we'd have to wait until Feb 2021 to figure out those bonuses?
This is the main reason I think we should not do this.

Agreed. The best pick per round bonus makes much more sense for a January-December league.

Best pick per round bonus would be fun.

What do we think about movies with December 25th release dates. Can we draft them for 2020 box office? Also December 2020 movies are capped at whatever they make through December 31st correct?

Yes my understanding is that movie that come out in December would be capped to what they make through the 31st. Which makes a draft from Jan-Dec very interesting. April cut offs aren't usually that big of a deal...but December certainly could be.
